I'm posting this from a hotel room at the Comfort Inn in Beaver, Utah.
The manager had me park Wonky on the sidewalk right next to the entrance so he could keep an eye on her. She's covered up, and waiting for me.
TurboDave and BlueStreak are fine - so don't worry. They're grinding it out as I type.
We were just north of Vegas when things fell apart -
Prior to doing this trip, I'd been having some minor problems with, shall we say, ahhhhh..... how do I say this.......
I guess there's no good way to say it - so, here goes -
The Tijuana Two Step -
Tourista
Like through a Goose -
Along with a low grade fever -
However- it responded to Imodium and Advil -
We gathered as planned in Yuma yesterday - Turbo and Blue arrived afternoon - guess they liked the 116 degree heat.
I arrived just before midnight. It was 91F at effing Midnight. Cool part of the day, eh?
Bob and Heidi Still stopped by at different times during the afternoon to sign our start forms. Good folks, both. Glad I finally got to meet them.
Crossed into Mexico at the Los Algadones crossing about 19:50 hours - - and highly recommended - they see the bike, wave you south, there's a liquor store not 1 block from the border. Buy a bottle of Aquafina, get the computerized receipt with all the necessary info - That's your start time !!!
Then ya cross back into the states.
The Border Guard checked us out one at a time - and he thought the ride we were doing was cool - said to be safe. I've found that if you just tell them the truth, they actually get a little envious - and wish you luck. And while not required, the passport makes it real easy. Just hand it over, they look at your face, scan it in, and hand it back.
I'd been feeling great all day - no fever - and realized just after midnight when we were heading N on the 15 that
"sumthin jest warn't rite down south"
Oh Crap. (I can't believe I said that.)
So - TurboDave and BlueStreak are on their way - they should hit Canada as planned - and have a good chance of doing the BBG as well.
They have instructions to contact me immediately when they pass through customs and have the finish receipt. I'll post it up when I get the call.
I'm scheduled to check out on Saturday - but may extend my stay another day, depending upon how things "fall out" . (ok - there's another loose pun) (and another. I gotta stop this.)
To those folks heading for Coutts, sorry to miss ya all - but you'll get to meet Turbo and Blue - a couple of great guys considering the shape they're in.
So - what's there to do in Beaver? Hmmm.........
(besides find more Immodium...)
