Planning a Border to Border run for early July from Tijuana to British Columbia.

1) Any suggestions on a sure, quick and safe way to cross into Tijuana and get a time stamp to commence the ride?

2) Will I need a passport for either Mexico or Canada?

3) I was planning to start from Tijuana at around 8PM and arrive in BC before 8PM the following day. That would put all of my night riding in California hitting the sun somewhere around Redding, CA., so that I could lessen the chance of encountering critters when driving through Oregon and Washington. Sound reasoning or unwise planning?

Any feedback from Iron Butt vets would be appreciated.

Hey, dude....put me in for a pound of mary-j while you are down there...........(cough, cough).

Hey, highlander....does that boat make a lot of trips from T.J. to B.C.? I could use another driver. lol

Just don't wave at anyone south of the border.... they'll think you're signalling '5' and five will try to jump on....

I am soooooo going to hell..... :D

Well, it's a good thing canada has america. Otherwise, canada would be mexinada. Plus, we would be colder....but, on the bright side, we would play more hockey.

...or that other game where they push the big puck with the broom. Kinda like shuffleboard on ice. I think I could rock at that.

With some training, of course...

Funnin'

Yes... you are. And so am I for laughing hard at that line. Have a great time with this run. Check out the US State Dept. website for passport required border crossings.

From their website

"The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 requires that by January 1, 2008, travelers to and from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama, Mexico and Canada have a passport or other secure, accepted document to enter or re-enter the United States. In order to facilitate the implementation of this requirement, the Administration is proposing to complete it in phases following a proposed timeline, which will be published in the Federal Register in the near future....

* December 31, 2006 - Requirement applied to all air and sea travel to or from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.

* December 31, 2007 - Requirement extended to all land border crossings as well as air and sea travel."

Paste

I did that ride in 2003. North South is easier I belive.

3 am start from the truck crossing (beside the Peace Arch Crossing), buy a bottle of water at duty free and cross the border. Seattle Portland traffic is best handled by 3- 4 am start.

I have since learned that Tijuana has truck crossing to the left of the main I 5 thing and a 7-11 close inside if Mexico for a good receipt. Don't forget Mexican insurance, and bring your insurance card to Canada - ask your agent

Yes you should have passport mostly to get back into your home country.

You can ping me off list and I can give you some tips and put you in touch with a rider with whom I just went though all of this stuff. She rode north South got a B2b and then rode another 80 miles home for a BBG . She rode an FZ-1 I think

I am on the IBA witness list so I can likely run down and sign you in or out

I am off Sunday for Alaska back in 2 weeks

my email is [email protected]

cheers

Bill
