Help wanted, more like.... advice needed.
Here is the scenario/backstory. My oldest boy chose not to go on his 8th grade trip 2 years ago to Washington DC. The cost would have been about 800 bucks and he is a practical kid who realized he could spend the money a different way and even made the suggestion that our whole family of 6 could go somewhere for that kind of money. Well, we never went mostly because of my school and work schedule conflicts.
A friend of mine is moving out to the Phoenix area and did not have a way to take his corvette out there. He was getting some ridiculous bids from car transport companies that are about a grand $1000 to transport. Well, I said in passing that I would take it out there for half of that and then just fly back. We talked a little more about it and then my wife suggested taking Connor my 15yr old out there and flying back or renting a car and coming home. She knew it would be a great time for both of us and an awesome time to reflect back upon as a life changing trip. My buddy found a car company to pick up the corvette for only about 600 because of a cancellation of another vehicle. But we had already talked about the trip and have decided to go ahead and take the trip anyway.
So the plans are this. Leave from our house on July 22nd and drive to the Grand Canyon in 2 days. Spend 2 days there and then meet my brother in Yosemite on the 26th. My brother who also lives in Illinois always goes out to California to see his Father in law in San Francisco is always looking for something to do during that time, so he is going to meet us there at Yosemite for a couple of days. We are going to head back to the Bay area with them for a day and then we are wide open for advice and suggestions with one request from Connor. "Dad, I would like to have a Borderline Dangerous Epic Adventure!"
We all know what he wants, now I just want to oblige that. This is a kid who rarely asks for anything. He gets straight A's and is everything I could hope for in a son. He is a terrific role model for his younger brothers. We have 2 weeks or maybe 3 to get back to Illinois.
Please give us some advice for BDEA. We plan on camping and are taking my Ridgeline. We would like to spend a couple of days at each location before hitting the road for the next destination. Glacier, Yellowstone, Arches, Zion, Bryce, Wind Cave, Rushmore are just a few choices to do. I have very little knowledge about what the best to do is and thought the forum would be a great resource. I don't have much time to research because of my masters classes are all coming to an end in the next 3 weeks.
So here is the deal, I need some help planning the adventure. I will post up a report and plenty of pictures. We have a few ideas, but really are open to whatever happens. Thanks in advance for your great suggestions and advice.
