Well,

I am not an audiophile, so this isn't the best thing since sliced bread in the world of audio, but I bought this to upgrade my home audio system.

I wonder if Russell makes a custom seat for it.

I'm actually pretty stoked. The last time I spent money on the home sound system was 1997. I figure ten years is plenty of service from the current system, and it's ready to retire.

Sweet. I replaced my Marantz with a Yamaha the last time I did any changes (quite a few years ago... before HDMI ports existed).

Having the stereo equivalent to an FJ1200 my first Yamaha was actually an HTR-5440 about 5 years ago. Great products! They don't tick...although they seem to generate a lot of heat. I don't know if it had altitude sickness as has only ever changed maybe 50 feet of elevation in it's life.

Looks nice from here. I'm using a hand-me-down Teac from my brother that replaced my Onkyo that I bought in '72. I think the Teac is about 10 years old, but I'm not sure. The Onkyo finally quit last year. No brand loyalty for me.

wow...same color as the '08 FJR. guess they had some leftover paint. is that the preproduction model and does the actual unit have any silver on it?

Yamaha actually builds some pretty quality stuff-if you look for it. They have consumer grade junk (think Best Buy), as well as high end stuff that you have to hunt a little for.

Haven't they been building that stuff longer than they've been building bikes?

Yamaha makes good quality solid state electronics. Over the years I have owned several. O'vale you cant go wrong w/Yamaha solid state products, they will serve you well. I still have and use an old Yamaha analog tuner.......I love the looks and the twisting of the dial to find the station.

Sometime when your time allows go in to a high end audio studio and sit down and take a listen to true tube two channel stereo once again..........like the old days long before surround sound. I have gone the full circle back to simple two channel audio and so far back as before solid state to an era of direct point to point tube systems.............ahhh the warmth of that sound.

Here's a pic of my Conrad-Johnson CAV50 integrated amp

yea.........I'm a bottlehead, now a true addict!

Ck out upscaleaudio.com a left coast dealer. I get all my tubes from there.

Not as nice as I would like to have...............but yea, I listen to a substantial amount of vinyl and use a Yamaha YP-B2 turntable. Digital sound has it's place and with a tube cd player w/16bit board, it's hard to beat the sound quality. However, the sound from vinyl has it's own character that no digital can ever match.

The thing is, my father is a true audiophile. He has built a listening room. He is a physicist and blended his wood working skills with his physics and software skills to create software/sound absorbtion and reflection that result in superb audio performance. The end result is probably the best audio attainable, but in the very, very high end, these things can be subjective. However, I can say I have absolutely listened to some of the best equipment available today as my dad's listening room is now borrowed for equipment comparisons by other avid audiophiles in the Denver area. I get to listen to some truly incredible stuff. I also get to listen to some truly incredibly expensive stuff and the latter is not always the best.

I tell you what...if true sound reproduction is your gig, then these are hard to beat:

If you want to blow walls out of your house, they aren't the right pick. ;)

I'm simply not willing to spend what is required to be at the upper levels of audio quality, but I can't listen to total crap either. I'm a perfect mid level customer for audio equipment. The Yamaha received really superb reviews for its price range. I spent sub $500 and in that range, it ranks as high as many in a 1 - 1.5k units. Nice.
