I love America. I love it so much I refuse to let it fall into fascism and destroy what people put their lives on the line for--from the Boston Massacre to today.
A fascist America is not America. America is an idea, not a geographic area and a flag. The Declaration of Independence, the Consititution, the Bill of Rights--THESE are what make America.

You're comparing Bush & Co to Hitler and Mussolino. How can anyone with your obvious intellect possibly believe this? If what you claim is true and Bush & Co attempt to stay in power through force in 2008 as Hitler and Mussolini did during their regimes, then I will be the first to take up arms against him. But do you seriously think this will happen?
You say you love America. But you forget America is more than just an idea as you said. America is its people. All of them. And like it or not, America chose Bush & Co. Twice. So every time you spit on Bush & Co you spit on America's decisions. Why, oh why do you left-wing, crybaby socialists REFUSE to understand this is how America feels when you attack the decisions America made in 2000 and 2004?

The way the fascists came to power in Italy, Spain, and, yes, Germany, was to use Democracy's own freedoms against itself. Hitler was LEGALLY the winner of the election that forced Hindenberg to appoint him Chancellor. Even Japan went through the same failure of its democracy.
In all 3 states, they accumlated power gradually, asking at each point at which freedom was being limited "Can we get away with this?" And two of those states began unnecessary wars due to the hubris of their leaders that eventually caused them to fall.
This has been the story of the Bush Administration--but perhaps our democracy IS stronger than theirs. We've caught and found out about the "Can we get away with this" attempts, and they are starting to fail.
Yesterday, Bush, GNASHING HIS TEETH, was forced to accept what should be a no-brainer: Prisoners cannot be tortured. Both the Senate and the House OVERWHELMING voted to prevent US agents of any type, either miltary or intelligence, from using torture--because under Bush it was authorized. Imagine that! Americans, who believe in the 5th Amendment, having to FORCE our President to abide by it. I am sickened by this administration, it's indiscriminate use of torture and GULAGs (a Soviet concept--secret prisons), but relieved that our Democracy is still working to over-rule him, the 90 Senators and over 300 Congressmen understand that we Americans BELIEVE in America-and America does not torture.
I keep going back to Franklin's assertion that those who would give up some freedom for security will lose both--and deserve neither.
What YOU right-wingers neo-fascists refuse to understand is that CRITICISM is NECESSARY for Democracy. Bitter, unsheathed criticism MUST be accepted and protected. Without it, our Democracy simply will implode. Refusal to accept criticism, using Democracy's freedoms to END democracy, and claiming leaders should be followed blindly and silently is the ESSENCE of Fascism. I think we have been in serious danger of it for the last 5 years. I think, though, our Democracy is now fighting back against the march to fascism, and has stalled it, and is rolling it back. Not enough, but we are making progress. While most of the press (especially Fox/Pravda) has rolled over like a submissive dog and pee-d on themselves, enough kept their integrity to keep Democracy alive. And many of the submissive dogs have turned back over and bared their teeth. Except, of course, Fox/Pravda.
I may be a liberal but I no believer in Socialism. Most Democrats aren't--just the extreme left wing. But there's a difference between preventing corporations from excesses that poison our environment, cheat their customers and enslave their workers, and government owning the means of production. The first is what I believe in. The second is Socialism and I don't believe in it. But if you watch Fox/Pravda, they tell you both are the same thing. They aren't.
