Brake light brightness?

This what I know about kisan and ABS systems.

As I said in my last post my previous bike was a K12LT with ABS but since it was an earlier year model I had no problems with changing just the bulbs to the kisan bulbs and this would cause the two brake lights to flash out of sequence. I didn't really like that they flashed out of sequence but received many comments about how the light really caught the attention of riders behind me

I believe I read somewhere that this is cause because of a slightly different voltage at the two bulbs.

When I bought the FJR I wanted the same attention to the smaller brake light assembly of the new bike. Kisan offers this module that will contol up to 4 lights and all you need to do is cut the brake light wire before the "Y" in the wire. Connect both ends to the module and connect a ground wire. Now both lights work in sequence.

I had the module installed for about a week and had 3 ABS faults during the week. Today I went to the dealer so they could read the abs fault code and they said it was code 24. "Brake lights failed or modulator installed"

Exactly right so for now it's disconnected.

When I ordered the module "100HD" I couldn't find anything about the module causing a problem with Yamaha ABS. Today I found it on Kisan's web site. The correct module is the 100HD-m for Yamaha ABS equiped bikes.

Tom, thank you for the info, you are one smart FNG!! I may just go with the proper modulator and a 6" led light bar, that is if I can control LEDs and the standard 1157s with the same modulator....this is not as simple as it first appeared, thanks to all for the guidance B) B)

How about this, I just got off the phone with Kisan again, they are going to ship me a set of thier new 1157 style bulbs, these are a redesign which address the issues with ABS :yahoo: They are not listed yet in the online catalog but will be shortly...I will report back after giving them a trial period, fingers crossed B)

1157 blubs are 1157 blubs. Try not to get too excited over this one. You'll get the same blubs as before.

Nah, these are special, they blink.....what you get is a 1157 style base with a circuit board built in that flashes the brake light, the filament is a replaceable halogen....they are significantly brighter too....you can even program brightness of the running light to give more contrast to the brake light....check the link pawtracks posted.

Kisan support is great.

I bought the wrong module for the brake lights and this was causing ABS problems. I called Kisan and they told me to ship the module to them. They added a ballast to the module, relabeled the module as a -M, and shipped it back to me priority mail and didn't charge me anything.

Brake lights now flash as advertised and no more ABS problems. :clapping:

The part number for the new ABS version is 20WD-2PAK

It doesn't show on the website yet but you can order it now by requesting it in the comment section after ordering the 10WD-2PAK. Price is the same.

Kisan is supposed to have it up on the website by the end of Sep.

These little jewels are worth their weight in gold for the safety they provide. Plus the little halogen bulbs in the electronic base are brighter than standard 1157 bulbs.

Much easier to install than hyperlights or even the Kisan module.

I have developed a running light and brake light combo LED kit for the rear panel of the Givi V46 box that I am starting to make and sell in the Vendor forum. It uses the highest output LED's currently available on the market and really enhances rear visibility. It gets the lights up higher where they are more in the line of sight of drivers. I don't know how many I am going to be able to make or how fast I can make them, as it is a bit labor intensive, but hopefully I will get faster once I get more made. If you are interested, the original thread is in the vendor forum. -->

If bulbs are good and still dimm always the ground wire poor ground. Try straight to the battery grd. and check.

New l.e.d.s. look great should be standard always think safety, safety first

Toe..

I have the same on mine, works great.

You can see that thing flashing brightly in the bumper of the cage behind you too - hard to miss IMHO

tucks in nicely above the license plate light.

Toe - for $25, it sounds like a great deal for no wiring involved. Did you have to adjust the sensitivity any? I'm thinking one for the license plate and one mounted inside the rear trunk (Shad 48) instead of ordering the factory light kit.

mine is the 12v wired in design.

just a couple simple splices to the brake light lines.

comes on maximum, stays on only while brake is on.

...gives me dat disco butt look!

just my .02

I have the 06, and my buds have mentioned several times about how bright everything is in the rear and how easy it is to see turns as well as brakes.

I have added the GIVI top trunk with brake light kit, and that is almost worthless. When you look at the pictures of the top trunk and the reflector sizes, you would think the third brake light would be a huge help. But those reflectors, are just reflectors, the third brake light is five LED's on a circuit board, fitted in the five quarter sized spots right above the lift handle.

Anyway, hope you get the lights working right, thats the last thing you want dim, the back I mean.....

To all of the above
Toecutter,Do you have any pics of your installation? Safety oriented minds want to know.
No pics. I mounted mine just under the Givi base plate, up nice & high.

It can be mounted two ways, one of which utilizes a mercury switch to have the LED's flash only when decelerating. I flipped mine over so it is lit whenever the brakes are on. And I keep the brakes on at least until a cage is completely stopped behind me.

I agree, and that's why I am making a new kit that is many times brighter than the Givi light kit. (See photos above).
And why I jumped on one of Fred's kits when it became available :yahoo:

A friend with a Goldwing 1800 has the WigWag on the trunk brake lights. They're very attention getting!

I wonder if there is anyone that's used the WigWag on the FJR brake lights & can give an opinion about them.
