Hi guys, ok I tried to hook up my new brake light kit for my V47 Givi top box. I had two wires that had twelve volts with the brakes on they looked like they had been used before, hooked them up and the brake lights quit working! Checked the bulbs bulbs were fine. Checked the fuse fuse is fine. disconnected the wires giving up on that kit but now could I have fried the light pulse switch or what ever it's called the previous owner either installed it or had it installed?

Google search:

site:fjrforum.com givi brake light kit

The following links were for Gen 1 and Gen 2 bikes in that order according to their original post dates. Not sure if all info applies to your gen 3 bike.

On one of the first related sites that search will reveal is titled "Givi brake light issue." CLICKY HERE You'll find some great links and helpful info.

Another called "Just wired new Givi top case brake lights" CLICKY HERE will provide some more helpful suggestions.

Now concerning your dilemma,

You're working on a 14 ES, right? What color were the wires you tapped in to? You mentioned a "light pulse switch." Can you see where this thing was wired into the bike's system? Can you post up any pictures?

Beyond that, I'll have to defer here to the experience of the forum.

Good luck

Gary

Hi Guys! I slept on it, thought about it all day at work, came home went through it all again,. I found that the brake lamp fuse had no power to it! Began checking other fuses! The signals fuse 10amp was blown, I must have shorted out the contacts in the top case while I was checking for power. Anyways I changed the fuse and got the brake light kit hooked up again the wires I hooked up to were brake lamp wires as the previous owner had used them but disconnected them when he traded it in on his new 2017 FJR and put the rack and top case on it. The brake light kit worked but it wouldn't work all the time as the contacts between the rack and the case don't touch all the time! The contacts are flat on the ends so if they're off at all or on an angle they might not touch then no lights! So I put soldier on each contact so that they're round on the ends and a little longer in the middle of the contacts on the bottom of the case so that if I take it off I can still put the contact cover on the contacts on the rack. Can't seem to attach pics. Wish I could it probably would be easier to understand if you saw pics! Oh well it's working again and I'm sure I'll sleep better tonight now that I can ride it to work tomorrow!

Of course you could choose to create a free account on imgur too, then you could manage your pictures. You don't have to.
