Here's a total different way of breaking in a new bike from an expert on Motorcycle Engines....Anybody ever listen to this guy and tried this? Could you tell any difference? What he recommends for the first couple of thousand miles to make the engine perform at it's highest potential is almost the exact the opposite from what the dealers claim the Factory recommends....

There was just an article in the local rag about how much the real muscle cars are going up in value.True classic cars have appreciated over 25% in the last four years. They just sold a 1971 Cuda 426 hemi convertible ( the rarest of the rare ) at auction for #3,000,000 !!

Wish I still had my 64 GTO ! :(

I used this one after discussing it with two trusted motorcyle techs.

They both suggested NOT taking it to the redline during initial miles, so I did not.

Break-in suggestion

It is from the FJR1300.info site if this link fails.

Highlander - I have a very nice near-original (except for some engine parts) Marina Blue '66 Chevelle SS-396 that I drove to work this week.

Bucket seats, knee-knocker tach, Hurst shifter with 4-speed and 3.31 posi-trac rear. It is a bad boy.

I think about selling it every now and then but once I step on that 396 motor I just go NAAAAAAHHHH.

I wouldn't think of selling it for less than $20k.

I used the Motoman method on my '03 FJR. It has ~20,000 trouble free miles on it,uses no oil and runs like a scalded dog.

I just did the same proceedure on my new Ducati Paul Smart 1000LE. It has only ~80 miles on it so I can't say much.

Then there is the old story of the Japanese mechanic and his rider. Rider - I cannot go out on the bike it is not broken in yet. The mechanic grabs the throttle and twists, engine hits limiter, holds it there for 30 seconds - OK broken in please ride bike now.
