Internet wisdom. Sometimes I actually feel smarter. Like after Alan posts something smart. Other times, not so much...like when Beemerdons posts something smartassed.

Hey, AJ...give the old fart a break.

He, like me, is only capable of posting what he is capable of. :D

:finger:

The only item that breaks in within the engine is the camshaft and that happens within the first 20 minutes of operation.

Piston rings do have to seat, that was the main reason for Motoman's break in (as I re-call)

Way back I did a Motoman "semi" break in style on my new 04, however, I kept it just shy of WOT and did lots of heat cycles.

I changed the engine oil (and filter) initally at 50 miles and a BUNCH of "shiney" come out with the oil.

Changed it again at 600 miles. The bike, all the time I owned it, NEVER burned a drop of oil, ran like a scalded ape, would easily power wheelie in first and second gears (no clutching)

For the op, I would put as many heat cycles on it as possible and change it before you leave. When you return, change it again.. Yes its a couple of bucks, but compared to your initial investment, well worth it.

I waited unitl at least 3,000 miles before I went to semi synthetic oil just to make sure everything was seated fully.

BTW, the oil drain plug, on my Yamaha outboard engne (F150HP), is EXACTLY the same size/thread bolt in an aluminum block as the FJR and my FZ6. The torque, PER the YAMAHA manual is 20 ft lbs...
