I am getting my new FJR this week and am wondering about break-in.

I am interested in using motomans method and was wondering if anybody had any feedback about it.

On a Dyno:

Warm the engine up

completely !!

Then, using 4th gear:

Do Three 1/2 Throttle dyno runs from

40% - 60% of your engine's max rpm

Let it Cool Down For About 15 Minutes

Do Three 3/4 Throttle dyno runs from

40% - 80% of your engine's max rpm

Let it Cool Down For About 15 Minutes

Do Three Full Throttle dyno runs from

30% - 100% of your engine's max rpm

Let it Cool Down For About 15 Minutes

Go For It !!

This guy talks well and I have read as much as I can and it seems like sound information.

This engine will only be new once and it would easy to pick it up with a truck and not have it run until then.

Anybody used this method, have a reason I should not use it, ??????

Thanks

O.k. This question is like asking which oil is best. You are not going to get a cohesive answer, because there exists no data which deny or confirm this method, only subjective reports.

Break it in however you want, it probably won't blow up either way!

You are right, the data is not empirical, but if enough folks chime in, then a consensus prevails....

I think that is the power of the forums, few things beat data, more of it is better and these forums really offer that.

Seat of the pants responses are often the best

How did you break in your bike and have you dyno'ed it?

Just ride it like you stole it and have fun. :clapping:

Be careful, that is one of the most well known logical fallacies.

"Argumentum ad numerum (argument or appeal to numbers). This fallacy is the attempt to prove something by showing how many people think that it's true. But no matter how many people believe something, that doesn't necessarily make it true or right. Example: "At least 70% of all Americans support restrictions on access to abortions." Well, maybe 70% of Americans are wrong!"

I've never bought a new bike! But if I did, I would just go easy on the high RPM's and full accelleration for the first 600-1000 miles.

Well if ya want data, try adding in all those folks who thought the plane wouldn't take off the conveyor belt.

Then multiply it by the number of people who thought it would.

Now.... you got a **** load of data.

Amazing how these two threads came together at the same time.

Hey Bob? Don't look now, but your boat is sinking. ;)

OK Here is my Data.

I will not own this particular bike long enough for it to wear out. I will see another new shiny (probably FJR with new shiney things on it) in a few years and get rid of this one.

So I ride it like I stole it and that is how I broke it in...... These suckers last forever. Short of crashing it... You are only gonna go through tires and money on farkles, as long as you change the fluids as prescribed and follow the maint schedule.

Ride it hard like a whore, she loves that!!
