I have 5K on the factory tires and they are garbage. The rear is actually cupping. Handling now sucks. Going to try PR2's. I liked the PR1's I ran on the 2005, so we will see how the PR2's go. Certainly can't be worse than the BT-023.

The tires you currently have may say BT-023 and have the BT-023 tread pattern but they are just a cheap tire that Yamaha contracted with Bridgestone to build as a OEM tire and a long ways from having the quality of a real BT-023. Try a set of the BT-023GTs and I think you will find that they will have much better grip and handling, smoother ride, and will last a lot longer what came with the FJR.

I never rode a FJR with the OEM BT021 but that was Kawasaki's choice when they introduced the Concours14.....and those were absolutely horrible tires. Poor handling and a harsh ride but fortunately they were usually to the wear bars on both ends by 3500 miles. They upgraded the tires in 2010 due to all the complaints and the revised 021s were better tires with almost double the tire life but I think Kawasaki lost a lot of sales in 2008-2009 because of all the negative comments about the C14's ride and handling that were a direct result of really cheap tires.

Sad thing is the rear tire that is cupping is not the original Yamaha tire. That tire was replaced at 1K with a 1 inch slice. I replaced it with the same tire from the Superstore to match the front. I'm going to go with PR2's for now, but will keep an eye on others experience with the GT. Also, the PR4's are right around the corner, which will be out for the next replacement.

That is surprising about the rear tire but you will like the PR2s. I've gone through 7-8 sets of them on my FJR and C14 and my only complaint is that the handling is not the best the last third of the tire's life. The rear tire seems to wear sideways instead of wearing in which squares off the tire and makes the steering heavy. Doesn't make any difference in a touring application and someone wanting a faster turn in always has the option of changing the tires when they start to square off.
