Ugh. First problem with my wonderful bike.

While at the 2014 Mass Guzzi Rally (http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=71442.0]), my left side case latch broke...not the torx screws, but the latch that opens and locks the door.

Here's a closeup of the broken thang:

A) Anyone have this break?

B) Any ideas how I can open my case to get my rainsuit, air compressor, tire repair kit, and fancy bottle of bourbon I bought in Lenox, MA, out?

C) Any thoughts on how warranty-able this will be (I would think no-brainer)?

TIA.

Hope you get it covered under warranty.

You could drill out the rivets on the hinges and maybe get it open far enough to get to your valuables.

That is the method used to remove the lid for painting.

The side case should be covered under warranty with no issues. If it is covered, then opening the side case is no problem, just take a sawzall to it. Normally I would have suggested a 3 lb dead blow sledge but that fancy bottle of bourbon worries me

Remember, the first rule is to do no harm.

Edit: Bummer it broke, that is very rare to perhaps unique for that part of the latch to break. I'm pretty sure a clever fellow could figure out how to run a screw into the stump or find pliers/cutters/vice grips to get hold of the stub and get the case open.

Case delivered to the local dealer. I was able there to use some needle-nosed pliers to pull (hard!) on the side case latch mechanism and open the case. Bourbon (and Rev'It H2O rain gear and tire compressor) retrieved! Now to wait for new case from Yammy. How weird will it be to ride around with just one case?

What are the best sources for new cases? I have an 05 and that's a pretty old part...
The side cases are exactly the same for all years except the color, so they are still being made. If you don't mind paying for brand new you can order from Yamaha via your favorite parts supplier. There are several discounters listed in the forum. I find that boats.net is usually the lowest price. You will also sometimes see used ones for sale on the forum in the for sale section, and on ebay once in a while. What exactly is the reason you want new ones? A broken or damaged one is usually repairable.

That's nearly the same answer given in another post on the same topic HERE. Based on the previous post we have to commend the OP for having done a search. Admins owe the OP an ATTABOY for that. But the duplicate posts, maybe not so much.

Hopefully one post will get the whole story.
