Something similar happened to my best friend 3 years ago. I think we are on surgery #6. Just had a partial knee replacement. We've done a halo, plates, screws, removal of same, knee clean-outs and now the replacement. If you guys need help with anything, I have a list of recommended doctors, surgeons and PT places in Houston, Chicago and Albuquerque. All the best to your brother and to you.

A good friend of mine was hit head on by another motorcyclist who crossed over the DY. Her femur was shattered and over the course of the past 3-1/2 years she has endured 6 surgeries and all the rehab fun that goes with it. There were dark times when she was afraid that she would never heal and be whole again.

I am happy to report that after all that she had to endure, she just got a clean bill of health from her doc and is riding again. With the power of strength, determination, will, prayers, and belief that he can heal, anything is possible - having great family and friends to support him sure helps too! Sending healing energy his way and prayers for a happy ending.

Bruce, prayers and positive thoughts coming your way :clapping: ...hang in there and think about riding in the future.

I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers for Bruce. On the 18th, the day after I last wrote they had to cut off the cast (hip to toe) due to excessive swelling. It was recast on the 19th and he went home yesterday. When we last talk to him he said he was fine but that did not mean he was comfortable. His baby sister is staying with him on weekdays and his girlfriend stays with on the weekend. My wife and I releave them as requested. They have both been terrific and have made a very difficult situation much more bearable for Bruce. He will be in the cast for 6-8 weeks. I will keep you posted and thanks again.

I wanted to give everyone an update on my brother-in-law, Bruce who had the accident last July and severely injured his right leg. First I want to thank everyone who has offered their thoughts and prayers on his behalf. I can assure you that it was heart warming to him and all of us. So thank you very much.

Bruce got the full leg cast off about 3 weeks ago and is now wearing a boot and is on crutches. He is doing rehab in preparation for being able to put weight on the leg. Hopefully he will get that word soon. Barring unforseen complications he is now safe from the risk of amputation of the leg. Because he has now been off of it for over 7 months and it was obviously pretty torn up as far as the muscle goes it is unknown how much use of the leg he will have as far as full activities. Naturally we are all hoping for a full recovery of use of his leg.

Bruce is back to working full time and he is able to drive himself to work by using his left leg for the brake. He can take the boot off to operate the accelerator and when he is sleeping. As you might expect his morale was getting pretty low because he was not able to get out. He is a big outdoorsman who loves to hunt and fish. So in January at the end of pheasant season, his son and some friends took him hunting. They set him up as a blocker using the hood of a truck to brace himself to shoot. He said he fired on 5 birds but only got one. He said you should try leaning over the hood of a truck, aiming and shooting while balancing on one foot. But that little hunting trip did wonders for his morale.

The tibia is finally healing but it is just taking a very long time. The Doctor say it is partly due to his age. In addition to the full cast he has used an electric bone stimulator since last October. He has also taken calcium supplements designed to assist in bone growth.

We are are all thankful for all the support by family and friends near and far. His younger sister moved in with him after the accident and stayed with him until about 2 weeks ago. Other family members would give her relief on weekends and at other times if she needed to get

away for a few days. He now feels he can do well for himself and is staying home alone now. That is also helpful to his morale as he has always been a very independent sort.

It is hoped that in the next visit or two with the Doctor that the decision will be made that he is healed enough to put weight on the leg so he can get to the final stage of recovery which will be walking again. I will post again when there is more good news.

Thanks for letting us know about Bruce's situation, so that we could pray for him. I have just spoken to the Great Physician on Bruce's behalf....hang in there Bruce, prayer works!!

Another chapter in Bruce's story. He had another surgery yesterday, this time to repair torn ligaments in his right knee. He had been complaining for 5 months about the pain in his knee. They did an MRI the first of the week and saw the damage. The Dr is now apoligizing all over the place as this should have been addressed along time ago. And as I have said earlier this Dr is supposed to be one of the top two in our area for orthopedic surgery. That is scarey!

Hopefully Bruce will now get both the leg and knee healed and be able to start rehabbing so he can get back to walking. He has a ice water circulation device on the knee for 72 hours which is supposed to help reduce swelling and expedite healing or something like that. It has now been 8 months since the crash. He is hanging in there but as you can imagine he has some down days. On the positive side he has been able to work full time which is better than some can say in this economy.

I want to express my 2cents of adding Bruce and his family to my and my family's daily prayer list uplifting him to the Heavenly place at our bedtime in the deep south. I mention both Bruce's physical and mental well being, and that may he feel the Good Lord's arms surrounding him with peace, comfort, and encouragement and be secure that he will be all right. Amen.u

What a great testimony of the support of his family and friends and those of us in cyberspace. I know I wouldn't be here without my circle of supporters at times in the past and present.

:yahoo: Great news! I saw my brother-in-law, Bruce on Easter. He is off the crutches but still is wearing one of those "very fashionable black boots" and is using a cane. If all goes well he will be able to shed the boot in about 3 weeks. We are all hopeful that he is now on his way to a full recovery. He still has a lot of rehab ahead of him but his attitude is good.

I told Bruce that I would carve him a cane (my other hobby is woodcarving) and it will have his favorite game on it. He is a big hunter and fisherman. I also told him that I fully expect him to use it for just a little while and then hang it up on his wall with all his other trophies.

Prayers sent. I wish him the best for a full recovery. There is a guy on PNWRiders that lost part of his right leg after a couple of years of debilitating pain. He is now busy riding a Ducati with an artificial lower leg.
