Brushed Finish on OEM Cans - How to?

Hey guys,

I'm wanting a brushed finish on my OEM cans and aren't exactly sure on how to get this look. Has anyone done this to your OEM cans before? I was thinking of trying a green Scotch Brite pad. Obviously I'll only move the pad in one direction, to avoid swirls. I also thought about getting them blasted with baking soda or some other very low abrasive media.

I cleaned the tar, road grime etc on mine using mineral spirits and a Green Scotch Brite pad. All the crap came off, they look like new to me.

Do you know how thick the coating is on the cans and how much you would be taking off?

Do you know how thick the coating is on the cans and how much you would be taking off?

I have no idea how thick the OEM cans are.

possibly experiment on the back side...meebee 1000 grit sandpaper or medium steel wool....

Yep, I'll do a small test area on the backside of one of the cans. If it works out, I'd gladly post pictures...if I can ever get it figured out. I have a h3ll of a time posting pictures on this forum.

If you remove the finish on the stainless cans, you will likely find it difficult to clean them as they will hold the tar, grit and grime much more than the smooth shinny finish. Are the shinny cans hurting your eyes??

#0000 steel wool works pretty good for brightening up the stock cans.Get as much grit off as you can with soap and water and just use the steel wool to go after the rusty looking spots.

Being polished stainless steel I doubt there is any coating at all.
