"no win"?

you mean like a 1200cc (punched out to over 1300cc) bike that was based on production engine casings that were melted down and cast into a form that couldn't be forced into a production frame if they wanted to? or do you mean like said bike(s) entered into a 600cc race?

yep. i'd say they have an uphill battle.

Quotes from Erik Buell in the March 2006 Roadracing World

"There was a debate on wheter we maybe better skip Daytona," said Buell, "and the answer was, 'We're not going to skip Daytona. We're going to go run our best. We know we have a reliable bike now. We know we can finish and that's a big part of the story at Daytona. So we'll take a run at it. We may not be runninng in the front pack at first but maybe by mid-to-late-race we will be. We need to run. We need to go do this for racing.'"

also,

'...the XB-RR engine produces over 150 rear-wheel horsepower and is expected to last an entire AMA season with only routine oil changes and a mid-season top-end inspection'.

Uphill battle??? yep, you said a mouthful.

I read that, but, saying 'clutch failure' can mean a lot of things. Didn't say if the clutch was just fried, if the basket broke, if a clutch or drive plate broke, if a spring broke, etc.

whheeeeng, wheeeng, then here comes the Buell braaaaaah brooooom. Nice to hear a different motor at the 200. They were up there at the beginning and one by one faded. Not bad really for a first longggg race. Miguel is the man! It was a great day in Daytona. Saw the guy do his reverse flip the nite before. Lot's of fun.

Worth going for the speedway activities. You can keep the rest.

Which has what to do with your comment about testing the parts prior to this race?

I remember (he said, dating himself) when Dodge/Plymouth decided to go Trans-Am racing against the Camaros and Mustangs. Every DNF mechanical problem was "a clutch". The car could go by on the way to the pits, running on 6 of 8 cylinders and puking oil from the exhaust, but it would be recorded as a "blown clutch". Pretty funny stuff from memory lane.

Just as I previously posted...were the components tested prior to the race? And, if they were tested, were they tested in an environment that resembles a 200 mile race at Daytona?

They claim pourous castings but, it seems odd to me that the parts that all of the Buell's had in during the race were cast at a different time than the ones they had for testing. Maybe I'm wrong...I dunno. Just seems odd.

...the design in question has been used successfully on Buell racebikes for years and underwent extensive pre-Daytona testing on the XBRR.
From Roadracing World article

If that doesn't say the parts were tested, I don't know what would.

Buell/AMA Story

I wonder if Harley-Davidson™ and Buell™ will soon be using the picture of a short, yellow school bus as their racing team logos. The AMA and NHRA are turning the racing classes into a joke and I am not sure why. Is there that much money spent by the tatoo covered hillbillies that you need to take these steps to get them involved? Do the Harley-Davidson™ or Buell™ faithful even go to road course racing en masse? I would assume the lack of a burnout pit and 50-something women flashing their ****s would be a deterrent Motor Company™ morons.

You would think Harley-Davidson™ would be embarrassed but I suppose their "fans" are so clueless that they have no idea of what is going on out there on the race track or dragstrip. Perhaps for 2007 the rules can be changed and riders on 'non-American V-Twins" will be required to push their bikes in all AMA and NHRA events. :bleh:

:tease:

Sorta like the Colin Edwards Honda Superbikes of years past. In that case, however, it was an "electrical problem" that always seemed to make the bike fail.

Given the above context, claiming the Buellers failed from a "blown clutch" is almost meaningless. Race teams seldom divulge the true nature of mechanical failures (or successes either, for that matter). :erm:
