From the Zook restorers forum.......1000 miles in 18 hours on a 90,000 mile 750 Buffalo-2 up!

Friday night I asked my wife what does she want to do this weekend... She said that she wanted to try again for an iron butt ride (SS1000).. I knew substituting her olive oil for cooking with CCI injector oil (they look the same) would pay off one day... She is now an official smoke rider .. Razz ... As some of you know we tried it last year with her and thats when the chain broke at 3 AM in Pennsylvania, only 60 miles from the destination..Anyway, her first destination was Beaumont Texas and back, but the weather looked bad in that direction.. So I told her that I had a box of GT tools that Ed needed to work on Gordons buffalo.. So instead of having to go to the post office and stand in line we decided to ride to Sarasota FL which is 453 miles, drop off the parts and then turn around... We had to ride back to Crestview FL. and then home.. We left about 7:30 AM and 47 degrees outside... I just plugged in the heated jacket and gloves.. Going down there was nice, as it got warmer the farther south we rode... Nothing eventful on the trip down... Coming back, we did pass 3 state troopers talking on the side of the highway at about 10 PM at 82 mph... I was then slowing down to get off for a gas stop.... Bobbi (wife) asked if I was nervous about the troopers, and I said nah !! Anyway, I ran inside to get some water and when I came out a highway patrol car was behind my buffalo. (ok, now I was nervous)... His first question was "what year is your water buffalo?"... Shock ....... I told him and he said he heard it come by and wanted to check it out as he rode a 75 GT750 back in the his teens.. So we talked about GT's for a while.... The ride went great with no problems. I would like to thank Ed for the sandwich... We did 1002.5 miles (GPS).. in 18 hours... Three hours were total stop time and fifteen were riding.. I was not allowed to put on the fuel cell, so I had to stop every 120-130 miles. The odometer clicked 90,000 miles at 1:35 AM on the way back.... And it only smokes a little, but still uses about a quart of oil (CCI) ever 900 miles.. Very Happy

IBA on a 250? Yer outta yer fuckin mind. I am the CBA poster child if anyone is. Almost did it on Frank last summer though, coming back from rippin up NC with Grumpy. Would be somthin though, wouldn't it?

I had a GT 750 back in 1972. It was California burgandy (basically purple). Man i have fond memories of that bike. I went from a Yamaha 125 Enduro to the 750. That was a big jump back then. Finally wound up trading it for a Suzuki 250 motocross bike.
