Bug stains?! Surely, this can’t be.

50/50 hydrogen peroxide and water. Even strait hydrogen peroxide if you want. Foaming bugs galore and then a nice rinse and they are off. Several riders I know that worry about this stuff carry a half size spray bottle with the mix in it for trips. Get to the hotel, spray the windscreen and front of the bike, unpack the bike, go ask for some rags from the front desk, rinse off the bike with water and wipe down. Easy.
I wash my FJR once a year, whether it needs it or not.
I carry the hydrogen peroxide when I tour, and always spray the bike and helmet with the stuff after a ride. If you get the bugs when they're fresh (usually 8 hours) they fizz right up and come off without a mark. When I did Deal's Gap with my riding buddies last year they were amused by this. Last month when we did the Nova Scotia trip I was amused that at thend of the day most of the guys had the hydrogen peroxide and were spraying the bikes with it. They said they saw how great it worked last year.

I was talking with a co worker yesterday about them bug issues and he said he sprays Pam all over the front of his RV. Then they come right off when it's time to wash it. Not something I would do on my bike but them RV'ers think of everything lol.

Edit : Didn't get to see the posts above about using PAM on bikes. I'm glad it works. I think we should just shrink wrap the bikes and peel them every once in a while.
WD-40 works very well too on removing tar on the lower plastics, PAM is a vegtable oil so it will not hurt the clear coat finish. When we make comment to someone having a problem doesn't mean you have to do what we do. If you like bugs on your bike then that if fine. Also while I'm talking I discovered Plexus for the windshield and plastic. I would have said something earlier but Plexus cost about $11.00 for a can and it works great on removing bugs from both the windshield and plastic.

While I have NOTHING to add AFTER the fact, what I do when I travel is I carry one of the collapsible pet bowls in my top case. After I check into a motel, I take it out and the BEST white towels I can find at the motel and I wash all the **** off!
The only time this plan doesn't work is when the fore mentioned LOVE bugs are out.... when they are out, one has to clean them off every 30 minutes or one won't be able to see (they come out in the tens of BILLIONS per square foot)!

Best Regards,

Shane
One time a buddy and I, on a trip to bike week in Daytona, used the BEST towels from the motel and when his credit card bill came there was a charge for $20 times three for towels, which he had to pay.Glad it was his card.. Anyhew, my '06 was covered with ghosts when I got it almost new-mild rubbing compound and elbow grease gets them out-a few coats of Mother's carnuba keeps them off.
