You've know doubt read that the 3 crazy canucks (I'm certain their are more) are going to ride a Trifecta of FJR Events.

Were pulling out of Sudbury on Sept 3rd and heading to points west with a destination of the WCR Meet with Barb and the gang on Vancouver Island.

Leg 1 - Hitting the sights to WCR

Were pulling out of WCR and heading to SW-FOG in Taos New Mexico to ride with guys who suffer from chonic brain bake.

Leg 2 - This is where we get stupid.

From SW-FOG were heading into the sun to NAFO to slay all manner of reptiles (Dragons and Snakes and Hellbenders oh my!)

Leg 3 - The long flat sun baked boring bit

So the point of this post is one of route planning.

The first leg is pretty much set in stone at this point, with highlights being the Blackhills (Rushmore), Devils Tower, Chief Joseph Hwy, Beartooth Pass, Hwy to the Sun in Glacier Ntl Parc, Icefields Parkway between Banff and Jasper

The second leg we've got to make some tracks with the most direct route possible. Had their been more time I would have liked to hit Northern Cali, but its just not in the cards. So, were leaving Victoria BC on Monday and riding the North Cascades, Hells Canyon, Rte 21 in Idaho, Rte 12 out of Torrey Utah to Zion Ntl Park, the south to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, then finally, onto to Taos.

The third leg, I really haven't even considered at all and I'm wide open to suggestion. We've got a week to kill for a 2 or 3 day ride so I'm open to suggestions on sights to see and routes to take. Hell we might even stay an extra day in Taos to rest up.

So lets here your suggestion Are we passing by some great roads/sights that aren't far off our general path? This route is only a guide and is likely to change substantially based on variables such as weather, fatigue or comet strikes.

We may not be stupid first, but we're throwing our hats into the ring!

At Salt Lake City, you're just a few miles (relatively speaking) from Wendover, Utah. Speed Week at Bonneville Salt Flats will be on as you pull in for a refreshing beverage and a night at one of the local hotel-casinos.... HAVE FUN!

See you at WCR :)

Well you could stop by here on the way home and check out the latest results of my genetic re-engineering..

Fantastic project, Gentlemen! I tip my hat to you men and I'm proud to know you! You'll have a blast and memories for a lifetime. I also wish it was in the cards to join up with you. See you in Taos, NM!

Hmm...

While not particularly challenging or technical or scenic, you could pick up historic Route 66 and take that to Chicago before NAFO.

Otherwise I'd suggest you strongly consider Wheaty's idea for Arkansas.

You could swing through New Orleans and get some yummy creole grub and laugh hysterically at Patriot's air horn mounted on the frame slider! Then laugh at it some more at NAFO.

Very cool guys! What a trip!

We're done with having kids, so I think I'd be willing to give up my left nut to go on a trip like that.

Hope the weather is great and have a blast!

Mike

Ya know. I've had a lot of friends ask me just why the hell am I doing this. The answer is simple really. I have the time, and most of the funds and who knows when the planets will align for me like this. For sure next year I'll have the standard 2 week so of vacation time so it'll probably be years before I can do something like this again.

It's a no brainer really.

Sure wish you were coming along though.

Steve,

You, Tom, and Rob have a great and safe trip. Looking forward to hearing more stories at NAFO!

Boy, how cool your trip sounds. Zion, for one thing, is incredible to see. There are some interesting hiking trails, for one thing. (Yeah, that's a hiking trail.)

And I think the North Rim is the place to see the Grand Canyon. Non-commercialized, for one thing. Amazing place. You'll come in by the Visitors Center and the Grand Canyon Lodge. It's about all the "development" there is there, and that's not a problem. The Canyon is still there.

They have a campground right there, but it's very popular. If you're doing any camping, it's a great place, but try to get reservations. Otherwise, the Grand Canyon Lodge is very reasonably priced, but again, make a reservation. Great restaurant there, too, with a zillion dollar view.

It's been a few years, but as I recall, but once you leave that area and start heading back, within just a few miles you'll come to a turnoff for Point Imperial.

And what a COOL motorcycle road (maybe 15 miles) leads up to it. Don't miss this ride. Look for this sign. Understated. Have a great trip.

https://www.jacoblake.com/ Gentlemen, I fully agree with SacramentoMike that the North Rim of the Grand Canyon is the best place on The Rim; if you have a choice between the two sides.

I highly recommend the Jacob Lake Lodge located just 44 miles North of the Rim; we of the AZ Beemers and Arizona FJR Forum Clubs have never had a problem getting a room there, at anytime!

The Jacob Lake Lodge is right at the Intersection of Arizona Highways 67 and ALT 89; so you can get a quick get away the next morning for Taos. You will be coming South on 89 from Zion NP anyway!

Mucho grassyass for the tips Mike. But the only way your getting me on that trail is blacked-out on Tehkillya and strapped to the back of a Sherpa. Noted about Imperial Point!

Good on y'all for making it out to WCR and then hitting SW-FOG and NAFO on the way home. I was wondering for some time who would step up to be Canadian content at NAFO.

Since Glacier, Banff and Jasper are all in my backyard, send my your itinerary for leg 1 and maybe I can join you on the way to VanIsle.

I vote for AR as well. You could spend a week in AR and wouldn't be able to ride ALL of the great twisties... :yahoo:
