I have a conference at the Hyatt Regency on La Jolla Village Drive. I am getting in to town on the 20th and leaving on the 25th of April. Conference runs 0800 to @ 1700 every day but Saturday the 25th when it closes up about noon.

I am looking for suggestions for a cheaper hotel nearby ($200 a night at the Hyatt is rich for me after paying $800 for the conference).

I am getting confused with all the options on sites like HOTELS.com and I am requesting business travelers or locals to suggest a place that:

a) has free off-street safe® parking for the FJR

B) is within 30 minute drive of the conference

c) is relatively quiet

d) preferably costs less than $125 or so a night

a view and extra amenities are nice but the above criteria are my major concerns.

I'll post in another thread on ride suggestions in the area in the late afternoons as I have never ridden a motorcycle in Southern California. Haven't been in SoCal in 20 years.

Many thanks.

There will be plenty of rides going on, we always show our visitors a good time....

Don't look like you will have a lot of riding time though.

Expedia.com has a nice map view for properties that I use regularly, and I'm a million-mile traveler. You can also filter by a number of options. I am not at all a fan of Hotels.com and have had relatively bad luck with them on descriptions, etc. in the three times I've used them. Tripadvisor.com isn't bad.

As an alternative, if you're open to a home stay somewhere, I just found a site called AirBnB that I really like. These are simply people who own and rent homes, apartments and rooms. Exceptional values and great descriptions of places if you can find one near La Jolla. I'm going to start using the site regularly for my business trips to New York City, even though I typically stay in 4-star hotels.

As a last alternative, if you're a member, call AAA or go into an office.

Have a great trip,

Barry

Good suggestions. As for ride time, ya never know how boring a day in the conference room might get and the road calls... And I'll have a better idea how much time it will take me to get back based on many factors (family needs/bad back/money, etc. etc.). I'm alotting a full two & 1/2 days to get back to Oregon which I may not need; that might free up Saturday afternoon too.

I haven't heard of a couple of those sites suggested. I'll check them out. Many thanks.

Thanks Barry, sent out multiple emails and finally confirmed a private room and bath in a nice neighborhood home at the end of a cul-de-sac for $55 a night. With the savings and tax deduction next year that will just about pay for the $800 conference!!!

Many thanks for the suggestions.
