I feel like I know less than I did before I read it.

They NEEEEEEEED to offer some demo rides with this thing if Kawi wants any chance at converting ST, FJR, and R1200 RT riders.

Wish they listed the quarter mile time as well. "Overly Refined," isn't exactly the type of objective data I was looking for.

If you read some of the other articles on that site, you'll find that these guys are pretty hard core sport-bike people. They consider a VFR to be a "pipe and slippers bike". Therefore the "they didn't love it" shouldn't come as a surprise.

The way I see it is the tester seemed to be saying that it's very fast but very bland  .....unless I missed something? ....

Hey i thought that was a really useful review, you guys just dont pay attention. For example I imagine none of you noticed that the C14 has a second fan! Whoohoo

Read their ZX-14 Long Term Test and you'll see why this is a big deal -- that bike clearly has issues with insufficient airflow through the radiator in hot weather.

Guess this means that NONE of the heat can get to the rider? Or the bike will run HOT all the time. Interesting. Makes me love my FJR more. :yahoo:

I have seen a lot of speculation but has anybody seen any actual HP, torque, accelleration etc. data on the C14?

Based on appearance and the impression I get of the of the C14, I'm not quite ready to trade in the FJR for one, even if it turns out to be a few fractions of a second faster at 0 to 60 etc. than the FJR.

Not that it is a bad looking bike and would be on the short list of what I would be looking at if I needed a new bike.

No doubt! but that gets up to "now we have a functional cooling system" Dont get me wrong, i was agreeing that the review really didnt provide much, particularly about why i would want to sell my bike for this

Here's what I took away from that "road test."

They're crotch-rocket jockeys. They're proud of the fact that they "discovered" the ZX-14's cooling issues. Leading the story with it is an acknowledgement that they have no established credibility in the sport touring world, and they know it.

The bike probably handles well enough. "Overly Refined" means it doesn't have the razor-sharp reflexes of Mladin's GSXR. Ya think?

It's heavy. And it stays heavy, although like anything heavy (unless the CG is WAY high) it does feel lighter once in motion.

It's hot. Deflector options or not, the thing makes heat. This puppy is gonna need some of the same home-brewed fixums as the GenI FJR's did.

But what really got me is their warning about being easy on the throttle. Kinda sez, "You owners of the older Concours and other such bikes, you'd better respect this much power." You don't say. You mean it sez 1400cc and 160hp, and we mere sport tourers :dribble: are so effin ignorant that we're just gonna snap the throttle cable taut, while heeled over in a 2nd gear corner. Gee, thanks for the warning, guys. Wish we could ride as fast as you do. :angry2:

Look, it's a 1400. As such it's likely gonna be quicker and faster than our FJR's. BFD. Anyfu kin go straight. There's no aftermarket for it and there won't be a substantial one for at least two years. Barbacks, frame sliders, (anyone hear about an OEM rear trunk or even a Givi yet?), Ohlins/Wilbers/HyperPro/Works shocks, fork kits, custom saddles, GPS mounts, dedicated tankbags, aftermarket windshields, etc. are all a ways away. Buy it and ride it AS IS for at least 6 months and more like a year. Oh, yeah, it's got a CANbus system, so adding electrifarkles will be a PITA. Splice into the wiring harness and you're out $2K for a replacement.

I'm glad for those who want one and have waited close to 2 years to own one. I have what I want for now. Worrying if someone has something they claim to be "better" isn't worth the sweat off my nads.

Bah, I work with CAN bus stuff all the time on cars and there's nothing magic or evil about it. In fact, it's VERY forgiving. I've got ~100 ft of plain ordinary CAT-5 cable that zip-tied to a 60A electric service running out to my detached garage and run CAN bus through it no problem. You accidentally cut a CAN bus wire? Splice it back together, it will be fine. I suspect most of the horror stories from the BMW world are the result of ignorant or unscrupulous dealers.

PS: To prevent any misunderstanding, I'm not in the market for a C14, I'm simply saying that the fact that the bike has CAN bus network should not be considered a drawback in any way.
