I'm thinking we should wait until we see an independent weighing of the bike.
Copy that Randy.

Motorcyclist Magazine puts the AE at 687 wet. If we beleive mamayamaha, the AE weighs 11 more lbs than the A which puts the A at 676 wet. Will be curious to see where the GTR comes in.
Seems like the # s some are using for calculating the GTR’s weight ratio is the 308kg posted on "superbikemagazine". It looks to me like "superbikemagazine" is posting the 308kg as a wet weight.

1. Hello sister!! Wonder if you can ride this thing facing the pillion...

2. Plastic clutch and brake reservoirs are CHEAP and do not belong on a touring rig of high caliber.

3. That can!! No matter what angle you look at it - it is ****** up. First thing to go! A MFG needs to step up and put on a proper dual sided muff setup.

4. Male slider, radial brakes, petal rotoras, ABS are trick.

5. Rear anti-jacking shaft setup is sweet. Prolly adds a ton of weight to this hog.

6. Integrated mirrors are interesting. I wonder if you will able to see anything besides your legs in them.

7. Two-tone seat is a cheap hack IMO. I am sure that thing will discolor and flake off and look really frigged up.

8. Holy gorgonzola Wallace! Have you seen that bazooka can hanging off the side?? What's in there, a thermonuclear reactor?

9. That VVT better amount to something... 54 more cc's than our feejers is not much to write home about. So far the paper numbers look weak. And puhlease...calling it (like the ZX) a "14" is a bit of a stretch, no? What was wrong with 1350?

10. Gage cluster is very nice and very clean. I like symmetry. See if my list ends in a even number.

11. There are a lot of splices to hardpipe on those brake lines. Spiegler's going to have a hell of a time making replacements, but it looks like it will be a must, especially on the ABS model.

12. Looks like only 1 fan on the curved radiator. Can you say "roast-O-matic?'

14. Overall, the bike looks nice. Like said above, time will tell with real world results. If this thing is loved like the ZX-14, I think they are in good shape. As with any bike, a few things will need upgrades. Like that muffler - did I mention that ugly-*** can???

If the hp,torque and weight numbers are what the Euro mags are reporting it isn't gonna be nothing like a ZX14. And it surely wont be "smoking" the FJR by any means. We should all know pretty soon.

The numbers came from Superbike for the GTR as this is the only listed independent figure so far. Keep in mind that that review did not mention anything about ABS which would make it heavier yet. Also, the FJR is carrying almost another gal of fuel. Anyway there is plenty of wiggle room left in the FJR numbers.

679/154=4.41

Bike Test USA said:

Its steering geometry (26.0-degree rake and 109mm of trail) is unchanged, but its extended wheelbase (to 60.8 inches) somewhat mutes its agility. Also, its claimed weight jumps 29 lbs, which should see it scale in around 646 lbs
646/145=4.45

The 686 (AE) figure I think is high based on Yamaha's dry weight of 582. That is a difference of 104lbs. 6.6 gal of gas, 4.25quarts of oil and 3 quarts of water weigh 55lbs. Where could the other 50 possibly come from? 15 - 20 maybe.

Those that want it are going to buy it. Then they can tell us about it and then we can go RIDE and quit all this jowl flappin. Who really cares and why does it matter if the FJR or the ST1300 or the Sprint ST or the Duc ST4 or the beemer is the fastest or has the most HP are we gonna race or ride? If we're racing I'm gonna bring my GSXR. If we're gonna spend the day riding in the mountains and on the coast then I'll have my FJR. You bring whatever you want I really don't give a !*#! what brand it is as long as we're enjoying the ride. Mount up and lets go!!!

well, based on this picture

it looks like if you lose the top to your brake or clutch reservoir, you can probably pick up a replacement lid in the tupperware section of your local wal-mart. ( : cheap-looking...
Ya Dean,

They used um to save weight...HAHAHAHAHAHAHA..Other wise that Pig would of been pushing 8 bills.....

I agree with ya 06INDIXIE, When it is race time, it is time for me to swing a leg onto my other ride.

Looks like Big K’s UK website is posting a dry weight of 279kg—bout 614#s.

I'm thinking we should wait until we see an independent weighing of the bike.
Also, it would be nice to know how the dry weight of both brands is determined.
Who knows, maybe someday an independent may publish the equipped wet weight of both bikes.

I can almost guaranty that MCN will do an ST shoot-out once they get their hands on the Connie.

dry weights are completely irrelevant because you don't ride a bike dry.

Who cares about dry weight. Load it up with fluids, battery and the side cases and weigh the damn thing. Dry weight means nothing but something to argue about.

Absolutely. One problem is that most tests rely on mfg's numbers alone as many don't have a real means of weighing themselves. The difference in wet/dry is ususlly pretty consistant between bikes in the same category as fluid weights are constant and the volumes of each are generally the same, except fuel. For SST's it is 65-68 lbs with 6.5 gallons of fuel. Add or subtract 6lbs for every gal more or less. Any significant deviation from that would be suspect.

It's merely a baseline for comparison. Kinda like 6.6 gals worth of gas capacity. I've never known anyone to actually put 6.6 gallons worth of gas in the tank.

I think it'd be easier to make a ZX14 feel right (distance riding) than to make a C14 look right.
That thing is almost goofier-looking than a K-series BMW, if it didn't have that engine in it I don't think anyone would give it a second look.

Agreed 100%

Bags or no bags.... Still looks like ****.

Without bags whats that monstrosity posing as some type of cowl beside/below the tank?
