I bought new Stradas for my bike and I decided to break them in with a little 4 day 1,314 mile ride.

A little of what California has to offer year round

It is a long show but there are some real nice shots there of what California has to offer. If you watch the whole thing this is what you will see.

Venice Beach

Capistrano Beach

Old Town San Diego

Jalama Beach

Harris Grade Rd

Tepusquet Rd (saw a deer)

Foxen Canyon Rd (central Cali wine country)

Figueroa Mountain Rd (saw a mountain lion the size of my old Rott at 10 yards, ran away from me, had massive legs and a huge head)

Happy Hollow Canyon Rd (had to go offroading for 2 miles)

Stagecoach Rd

Old San Marcos Rd

Hope Ranch

SBCC

Cabrillo Blvd

Stearn's Wharf

Carrillo St

North of Morro Bay

Hearst Castle

Piedras Blancas Lt. House

Elephant Seals

Bixby Bridge

Monterey

We literally took the coast all the way to SD. Wherever we could get off the 1 and ride along the coast on surface streets we did. Much of this was stop and go due to residential areas. Much at 15mph due to the speed limit. It was worth it.

Oceanside was really neat. Literally riding along the beach (on the beach) on an actual road. Would have stopped to take pictures but Mr. Moto Cop was behind me making sure I didn't stop in a no parking zone area or go over 15mph.

Anyhow, just thought I would share.

Whooo! Big Hairy Assed deal Rob. Ya forget to mention the detraction's.

Earthquakes, Fires, Mad Mike2, Dcarver, Old Micheal, FJR Robert, Toecutter, MCML, Old Micheal....Oh **** I got him twice. Oh well he's particularly annoying, no bike an all..

Danm, Michigan looks better all ready. Bring on the snow. :p

:jester:

Nifty..

I was born and raised in San Diego, And it's a nice place to be from...

you guys can keep it.

I dunno, I'm heading into 5 months of no riding and right now I'm thinking Cali looks pretty good. But come May, I'll be laughing and wondering why I ever have such preposterous thoughts. ;)

I shoulda mentioned I was raised in Torrance (South LA) & last worked the LA area in '85. Great place to be away from but nice to visit the twisty areas . I'm just getting into the middle riding season here (full time, no rain)!

Good pics.

I like it here as well. Very diverse riding that is available ALL YEAR ROUND. Nothing worse than having to put your toys aways for the summer. Just last week were were up at Convict Lake, enjoying the the snow capped sierras, ghost towns and being out on some back country fire roads. Just an awesome place to be.

Have offered many a folk help in moving out of SOCAL.

Thanks again for sharing.

In 1974 I was offered a job at Litton Guidance in LA. When it came time to negotiate the salary, the high muckity muck doing the courting kept selling "the California lifestyle." House on the beach. House in the mountains. Wine at breakfast lunch and dinner. No rain. It was "the Good Life."

When it came down to working the deal, the amount required to enjoy the good life, and the salary for a lowly R&D guy working on DOD type contracts, were too far apart. I guess they figured that if you wanted to enjoy the California lifestyle, you'd be willing to sacrifice on nonessentials, like competitive salary. Even then, houses that were selling for $50,000 in the heartland were selling for two to three times as much in Kali.

Well, I enjoyed the visit to LA at their expense...

Later things got so crazy that Californians went to 50 year mortgages, and some companies resorted to providing a housing allowance or even company sponsored housing. I hear there's been some changes in real estate values out there though.

And then, as FUBAR points out, the gun laws in California are all written in favor of the criminals, and a tremendous amount of entropy is generated by their legislature as they puff and posture to outdo the rest of the left.

California is the only place I ever saw road signs showing "crossing" areas for Mexican families, sorta like "deer crossing" or "moose crossing" signs in rural areas of the rest of the country. I think these signs are gone now, but there was a time when they had them posted along I-5 out of San Diego.

A friend once pointed out to me that "the problem with California is that its full of people who weren't able to continue to move any farther west." Probably something in that notion.

Meanwhile, California serves a useful purpose for the rest of the US... sorta like US 129 serves a useful purpose for those of us riding other roads in Tennessee. It attracts a lot of folks away from the other areas, and makes for better life (better riding) in the other areas.

I like to visit California once in a while. And I like a lot of folks who live there. But I don't want to live there too.

Gun laws too weird in California... Couldn't live there.
That is the one big drawback for me. Other than I think San Diego is great. I think most San Diegans are very fond of this place too.

There are not many places where you can ride from the beach to the mountains to the desert in one day.

And if you have ever lived in a beach town then you know about the other perks too. The real pretty ones that run down the beach or rollerblade on the boardwalk.

Oh yeah, I'm loving San Diego!
