I am looking at 2015 FJR with 43000 miles. Can the shocks and forks be rebuilt. I am thinking most shocks are shot at 24000 or or least need to be serviced .
This isn't answering your question but there's more than a few Forum members here with ES' north of that mileage number. Can't recall much, if any, discussions about their suspensions degrading or having servicing done. Hopefully you'll see some more replies from those with first-hand knowledge.
II replaced the oil in mine last year just because and my mileage was about 50k. The oil that came out looked new. The Gen 3 forks don't have the coated slides that dirty up the oil. If the oil stays clean it will last a long time. I put a little heavier weight oil in than stock. I have not noticed and degradation in performance from new.
With a spring compressor, the USD forks come apart easier than conventional. No bushings to change, only maintenance is oil change and seal / dust seal replacement if needed. Simple.
Don't recall any reports yet of an OE ES shock being rebuilt.
When I sold my '14 at 18000 miles, the garage told me oil had leaked from the rear shock. They got it rebuilt before selling the bike on, so yes, they are rebuildable.
(I hadn't particularly noticed anything was wrong, my mind was very much elsewhere at the time.)
Hmm, I haven't heard of anyone who can rebuild the ES shock this side of the pond. I have talked with several suspension shops - Traxxion, Cogent, a couple others and none of them have any experience on rebuilding an ES shock. That being said - I have 140K on my 14 ES shock and it seems fine. May not absolutely as good as new, but not worth the $3K or so to replace (or replace with a non ES but good after market shock).
