I was telling some friends at lunch just yesterday about this. We were talking about movies and things we've seen that just choke us up. I saw the 'original' story back when it aired on ABC's Wide World of Sports way back when they ran their first Ironman in Hawaii. That was what? 20 years ago? It's stuck with me all that time. Now here you are posting about it.

I watched the video, and once again, I'm choked up. The original was far more powerful though. Running across the lava fields in Hawaii in 100+ heat and humidity, the cameraman asked why he was doing it.... "Because it makes my son happy".

Thanks for posting it, I'll forward it off to my friends. Just wish they hadn't pulled the original one down.

now I can only hope that my kids someday do realize how deep and unconditional a parents love is...this is indeed a heartwarming story and fine example of true love and parenthood
