Got a eflyer in my email about a tire sale at Canada's Motorcycle. Thought I would pass this on to my Canadian friends. They claim up to 45% off.

Free shipping. Well sort of, you have to buy $69 worth of stuff first.

I took a qujick look on the website. The Michelin prices are the same old same old.

I'll forward it on to Jim though, he's looking for tires. I still have a fresh set of PR3's sitting in the garage.

Guess that I don't have a deal on tire changers do they? I'm in the market.

Tom,

Can you email me the flyer,

Looks like I need new shoes but I don't see anything on the site.

Thanks

Chris

I got ask Steve those fresh set of PR3 sitting in your garage..... When were they made? As they sit in your garage are they getting any fresher?

Chris

I checked out the PR4's on their site. MSRP is 267.95 on sale at 167.56 Deal or not?

Last Summer. Bought them for my return from my aborted Alaska trip. I've got 10K on the stock Bridgstones (6000 miles) and it looks like they have another 4-5K left in them.

Pete's Superbike out of Que is still cheaper even with the $25 Fedx shipping as they do not add taxes.

Ok... so help understand the prices here you say cheaper.... I looked up Pete's prices for the same tire I got a little less than $3 for the store price and $13 less for the web price. Now you say hey ship FEDX? and they charge $25 and now you say they don't add the taxes? How is that?

I think the last set I got at Pete's they charged full HST, mandatory now..... in the old days before HST, they charged only 5% GST. No more, methinks.

The big difference might be that you can get Pete's prices all year long, not just when there's a sale on somewhere else. Then you can just buy them when you need them, no need to spend your money and store them in your garage.

Maybe... I used to buy from GPS central in Calgary and they had no sales taxes.... now they charge the 13% HST

As for storing them in my garage I buy what I need in the spring and my dealer hangs on to them. He might sell that set a couple of times til I need them but I haven't had a problem not being there when I want them. Besides he is local and I sometimes like to support someone local. This spring I got an invite to watch "Why we Ride" free popcorn, donuts, pop, coffee. When was the last time Pete's did that?

I bought my last set of tires locally. Price wasn't bad and I needed new rubber before a trip. I will support the local dealers as long as I don't feel they are taking advantage of me. For a set of tires (including taxes) I am willing to pay $50 or $60 more to the local dealer. I have looked at some of the Canadian mail order places (like Pete's) and found that any savings over some of the local guys are wiped out by shipping costs (as long as you look for sales).

If more than a reasonable premium to buy local, I will go elsewhere - usually Motorcycle Superstore. Free shipping to a US address, no sales tax, pretty good prices and I usually pick them up on one of my frequent trips to New England. MCSS will also match any on-line price; at least they have for me in the past. The Canadian dollar is down vs the US$ in the past year so it may make local purchase a better idea for the near future.

Since I do all my own wrenching and tire changes, I don't have any particular allegiance. Tom, your guy Donald runs an excellent shop, I have referred the odd person there, and if there was anything I needed done, that's where I'd go. He does his homework and you know it will be done right. True also that GPS Central at one time had no taxes, but that changed with the Harmonized Sales Tax... no more saving taxes by buying out of Province (can we blame Harper?).

Local shops to me might discount tires 20% from list, meaning you'd be lucky to find a rear tire for $250-300. I can get it at Pete's for $75-100 less and change it myself. If I was local to a good shop and needed tires, I'd support him. Nobody can compete with Pete's as he has a special deal with the distributors for volume sales (controversial among the Canadian shops). I was at his shop in 2010, I paid his website price and he changed it for $30... FastJoyRide had the appointment ahead of me... we were happily on the way to CFR after that.

I'm wondering how he'd get along with your current house guest Bieber.......... uh, OK, sorry, you don't need more problems..........
Actually, as a non-recovering Irish alcoholic I think it would be a hoot to go out drinking and chasing hookers with Robbie Boy! Justin doesn't like girls, eh!

I'm sorta in the same boat as Ray - I do my own changes and usually have a season's worth in the barn ready to go as needed. I've been comparing prices (need new shoes on the KLR) and Canada's Motorcycle has what I want and good prices. Since there aren't local outfits here that will even come close to those prices I think that's the route I'll go. Pete's has been my go-to source in the past for the FJR, but willing to give CM a try.

As far as the taxes go, I think everyone has to charge the rates now for wherever it is you live. Shipping from Alberta into another province, I have to pay the HST on the shipping charges at the destination, even though we only have 5% GST here and no provincial tax, which sucks. Curious what tax rate they will charge me to ship FROM an HST province to here...

The last set of PR-2s I bought from Pete actually came out of the Parts Canada warehouse in Calgary, got shipped to Pete, and then re-shipped back to me in Calgary, because the suppliers won't drop-ship direct to the buyer. Ridiculous waste of time and money. I could have driven across town and picked them up that afternoon, and saved the shipping cost to all concerned.

Huron, here is a copy of the last set I purchased from Pete's. Whether the taxes were buried in the tire price or? there is, was no additional line for taxes. $308 is what I paid for the Storms delivered to my home.
