I don't know what to think about that ... that article reads like its from National Enquirer or something

Don't get me wrong ... I'm not saying I don't believe it and I do appreciate you posting the link, but it all sounds a little 3rd world-ish.

I've been stopped in the US more than I like to think about and never had such a problem. The last time was in Georgia for speeding. We got off with a simple warning to slow down & that doesn't happen very often. We were way over the limit. Any other time I've been stopped I had to pay cash at the roadside but it was a reasonable amount ($75 or so) and it showed up on my Cdn record, so no scam there.

This is clearly a political piece of yellow journalism. One newspaper using the other as a credible source is meaningless. I believe that law enforcement in the US is not treated fairly or with the respect they deserve. The US and Canada both have significant problems with drugs and how to curb the flow. My suggestion to you is that you stay north of the border and avoid any issues that would arise if you were to be caught with $50k in one of your saddlebags.

"a vast private intelligence service called “Black Asphalt” . . . ."

I've gotta find me $19.95 and get that sent off for a membership. Stupid me and my guys always abiding by that pesky Constitution and all.

Yeah, I just read this on fb. Can't say there's no such thing as a corrupt cop, but most of the ones I've encountered here and below the line have been polite and professional.

I just asked the 'zilla man on that other sandbox if he'd heard this. I'm a bit embarrassed that this article is on CBC...

I'm actually part of this sinister cabal. I work with several law enforcement agencies by luring my Canadian friends across the border so they can shake them down. If I get enough Canadians to fall into their trap they let me have a ride in their black helicopter and visit the aliens in Area 51.

What a bunch o' horse pucky. Like silver spirit, I can't believe CBC ran that.

Think about it. Why would 'maricuns want Canadian dough anyway ? "The Canadian dollar tumbled almost a full U.S. cent Thursday to its lowest close in over five months ..."

A bit of time spent with Google shows that the problem is real - as is the gateway to 'Black Asphalt', though apparently there are 'only' about 25,000 users of the database which sort-of belies the term 'vast' as it applies to the intelligence community . . . apparently the database is being migrated to the public sector, with whatever that may imply for the future.

It is sensationalised, as the press often does, to a large degree. However that ANYONE can lose their money, homes or property with little chance of recovery without warrants having been issued or having participated in criminal activity is a very serious matter.
