My oldest daughter, Claire G.(4 years old), has a friend in school who was recently diagnosed with a stage IV Wilms tumor. Her name is Carly Trejo and she has a form of kidney cancer that has metastasized outside of her kidney. Her prognosis is quite uncertain. My wife and I struggle often at keeping Claire informed of why her friend is "sick" and why she can't come to school. Reasonable foresight has us optimistic for the future but fearful that we may have to go to a funeral with our early school-aged children. This is a struggle we as parents will overcome and can not even begin to compare with the struggle that Carly's parents are going through.

Carly is undergoing intensive surgical and oncological treatments to try to fight this nasty foe off. Earlier this week she had the main tumor and associated kidney removed. As a group, the parents at school have formed a non-profit organization to help raise funds to offset the insane medical bills that the Trejo family faces. As a shameless plug, I'm openly soliciting donations to help the Trejo family out on Claire's behalf. They have nothing to do with motorcycling, but I'd love to reach out to you all and offer the kindness of strangers to the Trejo family and to Carly. The donation page was arranged around a fun run event which was held today, but it's not too late to contribute. Please go to Carly's Angels for information to donate and to my blog to look at photos of today's events. Your generosity and kindness is greatly appreciated.

I'm so sorry...again, puts into perspective our measly problems and concerns

Big time prayers lifted for Carly and her family, as well as your Claire and your family

Peace,

Mike

Cancer sucks, for sure, but when it afflicts the truly innocent before they even have had a fair shot at the true joys of life, that's just heart-rendingly unfair. Lifting highest hopes for Carly!!!!

All proceeds go to the family with the exception of the small amount of money it took to properly license, insure, and advertise the fun run we had yesterday. I believe the website "myevent.com" also takes a small cut from each donation, but the specifics on this amount are not something I know the details of. All work to support this endeavor is volunteer. The money goes initially into an account held by the non-profit 501©(3)"Carly's Angels" organization and from that point the money is sent to the family. If you select the "click here to contact us" link on the donation page you will be able to send any questions to Stacia, one of the school parents and the person who spearheaded the non-profit status for this fund raising effort.

I hope that answers your question dcarver.

Thank you all,
