Man, those guys ar INSANE!!! I thought we did good when we drove from OHIO to Los Angeles in 32 hours! No friggin way!

It's very important that you understand Cannon Ball and Long Distance Riding/Iron Butt have NOTHING to do with each other. I say this with the straightest face and with all seriousness....having placed 16th in the IBR....and having ridden many other events. Going balls out and LD riding aren't at all related.

I'm moving this thread so that nobody else gets confused.

I would normally frown on this kind of running on interstates, particularly the eastern part of the country, however....

It is patently obvious these guys have their **** in one sock.

The level of planning, the ECM hardware employed, the level of detail that went into vehicle, night-vision equipment..... these guys kick ass!

For nearly two years, Roy Dale — a pale, shaved-headed, independently wealthy ectomorphic crazy ******* veteran of the Gumball 3000 road rally IBR — has obsessed sleeplessly over every detail and thrown money at every possible electronic connivance. His mission is intended as a triumph of the mind over the base adrenal impulses of common speeders. His route is nothing like the careless line a spring-breaker might plot across a Rand McNally — it's a painstakingly GPS-mapped and Google Earth-practiced manifest desti-document, waypointed mile by mile for detours, construction, and speed traps, to travel 1,500 ******' miles a day for 10 straight ******' days.
(belated props)

All this time has passed an they're still out there! :dribble:

So ya know, Brock Yates(writer for Car and Driver) started the first Cannonball Baker Memorial Trophy Dash as a protest to the federal mandated 55MPH speed limits.

I dreamed of competing in that event, unfortunately my old MG Midget had the bad habit of turning push rods into pretzels if driven over 70 MPH hour for more than a few minutes.

by my calculations thats only an average speed of 88.4 miles per hour. Thats nothing... if you dont mind not eating, pissin or takin a dump for 3 days. Oh and you will still have to make up for every one of the minimum 7 stops to fill the tank(s). could you piss while the tanks are being filled by someone else?? :)
