I figured it was a good chance to clean the carbs on the old CB-400F and what a mess. I've seen dirty carbs before but there is this green film that does not want to come off. I've tried several different cleaners but they will not touch it. What is the best carb cleaner that you have used?

See if somebody near you has a good ultrasonic cleaner. It only takes a short amount of time and they look like new. Most of the good chemicals have been eliminated from the market to save us from ourselves. For gereral cleaning I use basic spray carb cleaner but it doesn't eat the green deposits left by ethanol very well.

Be very careful with carb cleaner not to get it into critical rubber parts. It will swell and fook them up.

Napa has a carb cleaner that you dip the parts in, and I know it will clean all gunk even the smallest of blocked passages. It is very caustic, you must wear gloves when using it. The final wash is done with water to neutralize the cleaner. Do a search at napa for carb cleaner with basket, it's a NAPA/macs product 6402

Thanks for the quick replies. Just for the hell of it I just tried boiling them in a pot of water with some vinegar added ..................................... worked great.

I used to do that back in the day, and I also put in a few drops of dishwashing liquid...... mom hated it when I used her nice big cooking pot.

Yup, you found the vinegar trick.

I learned about that years ago when my snowmachine got put away for the season and I just never got back to prepping it properly. Come fall the carbs were FULL of that green ****. Somebody mentioned the vinegar thing and I gave it a try. Took a bit of time but it worked.

Vinegar is amazing ****.

I had a 67 Cub Cadet 123 that sat for 8 years before i bought it... fulla green.. dried.. but green and ugly.

My Father in law suggested Power Service (diesel fuel additive) it worked fantastic
