Short of purchasing an actual auxiliary fuel tank (much as I would love to have now that I've got a cruise and comfy seat and can rideeeeeeeeee without getting sore for hours at a time..) what is the best way to carry an extra gallon of fuel on long trips as a safety reserve?
The reason I am asking is because my bike typically gets 240 miles per tank before reserve kicks in.... I was on the road with a nasty headwind yesterday and reserve kicked in at 180 miles. Fortunately for me there was a gas station out in the middle of nowhereville and I was able to limp in on fumes to fill up. It's a very puckering experience to see that reserve kick in way before your next planned fuel stop.
I've got a small plastic 1gal fuel container that can be used but I don't know if this is the best way, or even legal.
Thanks for any thoughts/suggestions!
