I heard from my coffee buddies up Hwy 410 that SR 123 "Cayuse Pass" is going to reopen in October. This road connects Hwy 12 "White Pass" with Hwy 410 "Chinook Pass" and is a great round trip for Yakima area riders.

Anyone interested in organizing a trip?

We were in Packwood and Rainier a couple of weeks ago and the ranger old us that it would not be opening this season. Of course, this kind of info often changes. Sure would have liked to ride north over the pass.

You know how coffee buddies are. A couple of them are retired forrest service and road department so their info has usually been pretty good. Will check into this more and update.

Coffee buddies are right! Cayuse Pass is open (I just came up it) Anyone for a "3 pass" trip?

I have a Presbytery meeting next Saturday which I can't skip. How 'bout the 19th or 20th (or after church on the 21st)?

I lead 7 ducs and one CBR1100XX Blackbird from Issaquah, to Black Diamond Bakery, then over Cayuse Pass to Packwood and then to Eatonville for lunch on Saturday.

The trees and the views were fantastic.

We left Issaquah at 7:30, and it was 39 going over the pass, roads were in great shape. I suspect now there will be lots of leaves on them, so a bit more caution would be needed. There was one section where they were working, and we had to wait for a pace truck to come and lead us through the 1-way section, but that was only a 10 minute delay. I think this weekend is going to be lots of rain.

Well, I tried the Triple Pass Ride after the F1 race yesterday, but only made it as far as the Chinook Pass Summit.

Road was clear and wet w/ only a couple very small patches of slush in the East bound lane until the summit.

As I reached the top all I could see on the downhill was compact snow. So I turned around and pulled into the viewpoint and sat there for a few minutes, amused by the looks I was getting. I was tempted to continue, but not knowing whether I was confronted by 40 - 50 yards or a couple miles of the slick stuff, decided that "descretion is the better part of valor" and headed back east.

Probably won't get another shot at it this year, but will keep an eye on the road conditions and might try again.
