It is helps. I have done my "rack" from aluminium. It is to soft.

I have to do something from the steel, like you, but only for the antenna.

What is a good solution for a license plate mounting bracket and CB antenna?
What are you other folks using that is cost affective?

My cost effective solution was to buy some 1/8" by 1 3/4" aluminum bar stock from Home Depot. I cut to length, bent the piece with a vice and rubber mallet, drilled two holes to match up with the license plate holes and the antenna mount holes, and used some high temp flat black paint I had lying around to paint it. Very cheap and so far it has worked spectacularly.
