I'm starting to collect the componets I need to mount the CB linked below to the bike and run it off of bike power. Only problem I've run across is finding a place to mount it. I plan to go with a no ground plane firestik antenna. Any advice or pics on how any of ya'll did it would be greatly appreciated. The little antenna will be removed and will have an adapter to use a cable to use the firestik.

I've got this mount for my J&M. Looks decent I think and I'm pretty happy with it.

Holler at Mr. Bill since this sounds like his setup. I've had several arrangements for the CB antenna on my bike, but they all involved being part of a custom luggage rack. For what it's worth, there's plenty of metal in the FJR to establish a ground plane. All my antennas have been standard 4' and I usually have an SWR reading between 1.1 and 1.4 depending on the channel.

I like the lisence plate mount the best I think. Any one know if I can just get the mount? All of them seem to come as a kit.

Just get yourself and piece of 1" wide aluminum and put a twist in it and drill it to fit. Then paint it black.

Hmm good idea and I can get a piece of aluminium from work for free :) I noticed a kit that came with a grounding strap. Would ya'll say you can get better performance from a normal antenna or about the same if I go with a "no ground plane" antenna?

It is pretty easy to make the ground strap. But in theory the no ground plane antenna dosen't need one.

Here is a look at how I have mine mounted

I've been using NGP on bikes for 30 years. You need the cable that comes with the antenna or you may burn up your radio. And don't make a neat circle coil out of any excess cable. You need to kink the looped up excess into a figure 8.

The NGP is used on fiberglass cars trucks and boats because they don't have a large flat panel of steel to radiate the radio waves when you transmit. If you have a top case you could put a metal plate in the roof of that for a ground plane.

On my FJR I drilled a hole in the rear seat grab bar/rack. You want at least a third of the antenna above any metal so that would be a three to five foot antenna. If you do it right the truck drivers won't know your on a bike and will talk to ya.

It seems that fewer people are using the cb. Most people are yapping on their cell phones now days.
