Does Yamaha change another time the design of the cam chain tensioner?

I have change mine two years ago with the 5jw-12210-10 thinking is the newest one, now I see a new part number

1MC-12210-00-00
are they crazy??

and they change also the chain p/n

Yes, last one that I ordered (for someone else's bike) was the new part number above. It had a green paint dot on it instead of the blue dot previously seen. Other than the paint dot color I could tell no difference between those. Spring tension, dimensions and operation all seemed identical to the blue dot replacements.

If yours is still running quiet I'd say there is no point in upgrading from the blue dot to the green dot..

It may be that none of the factory installed CCTs will have painted dots on them. Not sure if anyone has ever found a dot on the original. It's probably easier for them to keep track of the revised parts at the factory than out in all the worldwide stocking locations for replacement parts.

Have you heard of any bad CCT's on 2008's Fred?

Yes, I've witnessed one '08 example that was rattling badly. The bike had close to 100K on it when the CCT was changed, engine was quiet afterword.

Hmmm......I thought the 08's had the new "improved" tensioner?? Guess not! I'll have to keep an ear out for mine. Only 14,000 miles on it now.

I changed mine on my 08. The blue dot one was different from the original? I didn't have any noise before changing but I was doing a valve check and it was suggested that would be a good time to make the change!

I have changed several including my own ('07). I agree with Fred, no point in upgrading from blue to green.... the point is, both are new and different from prior versions in Gen 1's and up to somewhere in '07 model year. The '08's all had the new ones to the best of my knowledge, no issues to my (our) knowledge. I could see one with a 100K on it perhaps weakening some, but could not nail down for you a recommendation of when to change one if you already have the new one...... best I could say is listen for unusual valve train noises that are becoming more consistently noisy and then change it.

For the record, I have seen the odd new one come without a blue or green dot, but they were in fact the new one..... no worries, I just chalked that up to whatever person or automated marking device failed to do on a very rare number...... if it is the new type, put 'er in!
