centerstand

Whike the FJR is in for tick repair I wonder if I should have them look at the centerstand. As I remember some of the early'03's had some welds break or something to that effect. Anyone have their's repaired or replaced from failure.

Yep, you remember right, some '03s have broken while putting them on center stand & fell. While on the stand, looking from the front of the bike, the center stand is made of 2 vertical uprights with a horizontal brace welded between the 2 & the foot leaver is welded to the outside of the right vertical upright, and has a gusset going up from it to just below the horizontal brace. All of this is made of, what looks like, thin wall tubing. The ones that broke did so on the right upright, just below the horizontal brace & just above where the foot leaver gusset is welded to that right upright & they looked like they were rusty on the inside. Yamaha did replace them & the '04s on have an extra gusset brace welded on the inside of the right upright which goes up to & is welded to the horizontal brace. Haven't read of any breaking with the added gusset. Dang, wish I could do circles & arrows. Later,,, De

Thanks, I just needed that they did replace some on the '03's amd where to look for the breaking place.

Hi all,

Had my centre stand replaced under warranty a month before it was out. The old one was okay, but I'd heard some horror stories of stands snapping and bikes falling over.
