Central B2B 2008

I'm planning on completing a Border2Border Run in the spring of 2008. Ideally it will be in the central United States.

I would like to find a few other riders to ride with.

I know it is early to begin planning a ride for 2008. On the other hand, preparing for something like that will take time.

Anyone interested?

If you look on the MTF forum, they are planning a B2B at the end of July 2008... I think I'll be doing that one with another new FJR rider...

I won't be able to do the MTF B2B. The dates are too late in the summer. Their website lists the dates as August 29 - September 1, 2008

I'm thinking sometime in April. For someone who's been under a blanket of snow all winter, an April journey South is a real treat. We get to see the world turn green again and it only takes hours instead of days.

The round trip distance is going to work out the same for me whether The B2B starts in Mexico or Canada.

Possible routes:

Brownsville, TX to Grand Portage, MN (B2B the hard way)

Pembina, ND to Laredo, TX (same as MTF B2B)

And probably the most scenic:

El Paso, TX to Plentywood, MT via Rapid City, SD

Edit: That last one would probably be best run in Late May.

The MNLD Riders did the Pembina to Laredo route in 2004. We started from Morris MB on the first weekend in May, it was 30˚F at 0500 in Morris that morning. April might be a bit optimistic but you might get a good window of opportunity. We had also considered a route similar to your Plentywood to El Paso but some one advised us against that because of the likelihood of snow on the front range of the Rocky's in early May.

I looked back in the MNLD Riders archives and found the most of the official route maps and some other info was expired but there's still a lot of conversation and ride reports there. See MNLDR you need to register but that's just to stop the spammers, do a search for "B2B" in "Rides"

Thanks Rick. I'm in MN LD Riders (zero posts). It's so quiet there that I forget to keep going back to see what's going on. I also heard about The List from valetz.

Thanks for your caution about the Front Range route. I figured late May would be o.k., but I will check into that. I really want that route, because the Great Plains to the Glacial Lakes just seems too boring.

I've been thinking of the B2B in the spring also. I like the Pembia route that the MN LD riders did back in 2004. It's 1630 miles, with 2 border crossings. It would be an awesome B2B2B insanity route!! 3,260 miles in 48 hours. :dribble:

I'm basically retired, so am flexible to time of year. Don't think I could do more than 600-700 miles per day, though. Too old! You can explore the Mexican border in Big Bend Natl Park. Then head north on any of several routes toward Amarillo; low cage-traffic out there. Or follow Texas border up to El Paso.

I'm planning a ride to Tennessee with friends the first week in June. I won't be able to do it then.

My first priority in planning this B2B was to try and recruit at least one other person. My wife says she's a little nervous about curable injuries turning fatal if I'm alone. (I suspect the real concern is that it's tougher to collect insurance if my body's never found).

I still plan on making the trip if no one else is interested, but like you said "you never know if you don't ask".

So, at this point everything is negotiable. I'm even willing to start South and go North. I would rather attempt it before the Summer heat. The route I'm considering is:

I'd be interested; I was gonna say I'd be really interested if you started south and rode north, but I'm either gonna have to ride to the start or ride home from the finish, so think up a date. I can probably go whenever.
