Not sure if this will take off or not, but since I'm thinking about all of this.

If there are more than a few people with S.O.'s maybe get a route for them. Hopefully my girlfriend can make it next year. I know we won't ride as "spririted" through the roads as everyone else. I'll still pass Harley's just on principal.

It was great to get out to Devil's Tower, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, but I didn't get to the cave (not a big fan) - are there more things to do like that? Maybe list some "highlights" of specific towns - what not to miss in Deadwood, Sturgis, etc etc - list some of the restaurants. I had fun just going out and trying some random place, but others might like to plan ahead.

What about an IBR-like run? Give a list of things to accomplish and assign points. Highest points and lowest points get ... something :)

Is there anything special going on at Mt Rushmore at night? Like the Crazy Horse light show - maybe get a group to that?????

I was going to suggest something related to a farkle demonstration - but I don't know who'd be willing to have something done to their bike when they are a few hundred miles from home.

Regarding the IBA type run. I'm in contact with beeroux right now to see how we can get something like that set-up. I wasn't going to post until I found something. But that's fine. I'll let you guys know when he contacts me back.

As far as a farkle type session. I was going along the line of a Maintanence type session where we could have a TBS or a tire changing where we could have some who want to learn how to do these things can. Maybe if somebody has a Tire Changer or if a local dealer whould help hold something like this. Like a Techwest thing except here during CFO.

Mount Rushmore has a lighting ceremony where they light up Mount Rushmore and they take all the State flags down each night. The night of the Banquet my sister who was there went to it and said it was awesome. So there are the ideas I had and am working on right now.

I've made reservations for two people with the hope my wife will be able to attend (not that she wouldn't want to; it's more about being able to get the time off), so two-up-friendly rides are a good idea. And it isn't like the same roads couldn't be covered, just a different group at a more sedate pace. ;)

On a related note, I would like to find a way to ensure that everyone who wants to ride on a group ride is able to do so. We found out on our return trip that (at least) one guy wound up riding solo on Saturday who would probably have been happy to be part of a group. Turned out to be a combination of events that resulted in this happening (he stayed later at Mt Rushmore with another guy etc), but to the extent that we can without creating a huge bureaucracy, it would be nice to make sure everyone's included who wants to be (recognizing that some would rather be solo or just a couple of bikes)

Everyone needs to make sure every evening they have their group and have a meeting place. Hard to do as admin's without a lot of interferance.
I agree that it's up to the individual and that it shouldn't necessarily be the organizers' responsibility; at the same time, however, we could add a sentence to the 'packet' that attendees receive that they need to arrange their own rides or speak up if they're looking for riding buddies.

You may have seen the thread I started today in the main CFO area, asking folks to send thank you notes to the suppliers of the door prizes. In addition, I wrote a letter to each vendor thanking them, and telling them I hope they can support us next year too, and gave them the dates of CFO 2008. I also enclosed in the letter a copy of the all-bikes photo.

Excellent, Bill. Yep, I saw your post and sent a note to Realtime thanking them for the decals.

That's awesome Jackson. I should get that list of everybody from you so we don't have multiple people calling the same vendor. I could organize that if you want along with me shaking up Door prizes.

If a vendor who donated more than one item gets a letter or call from everyone who received a prize from that vendor, I think that would be wonderful.

Oh, unless you're referring to wrangling door prizes for next year..... Yes, we should have only one person contacting them for that, and you're the man. Except, like I said, I mentioned in the thank you letters that I wrote to all of them that we hope to get their support next year as well.

Here's the list again, copied from the other thread:

* Premier Cycle Accessories, 9411 Mercantile Dr., Mentor, OH 44060 $50 gift certificate

* Black Hills Power Sports, 3005 Beale St., Rapid City, SD 57703 7 shirts, 3 caps

* Sagacity Wildfire Services, 502 University Ave., Hot Springs, SD 57747 FJR Cap, FJR shirt, FJR buttons, FJR mug

* Moon's Motors, P.O. Box 178, Monticello Minn. 55362 2 ea. $25 gift certificates, (MN only attendees)

Or should we, the first evening during registration, ask if there are people will to lead "tours" or have a few people assigned for such options. Then have that list available to everyone. For example, if Jackson was leading one tour to Devil's Tower, have his name at the top of a list and have people sign up for it.

Then the next evening do the same, but Jackson would be going a different route and someone else could lead to Devil's Tower. Does that make sense?

And Dale and his wife would lead the "shopping tour" both days :p

Ultimately leaving it up to each person to decide where they want to go and to be responsible for showing up on time. I agree that some people might just want to go on their own too, but I think we should stronly discourage that.

That's a good idea.

I think we should keep it very loose on the route plans. Some idea of routes and a few laid out is good. But I think things change from day to day. There is a few people who decide where they wanted to go the night before and a couple that decide the morning they went. I think Jackson had the same viewpoint. We talked about it one day. He maybe was thinking of having a list of must do roads and ideas for people but let them decide. Generally there is allows a group that goes together.

At EOM they had the couples tour and few others. I think that would be about the limit to what we maybe can do. Otherwise it gets a little to rigid for some people. Some just want to keep it loose. My .02

I don't mind being picked on, but shopping tour guide BOTH DAYS. The ideas are good though.

I agree with Mike that we should keep it pretty simple. Maybe print a couple of routes and then let folks make up their own minds. Most people are pretty good about setting up their own rides, and all I think we need to do is remind folks to speak up if they are finding themselves in an unwanted solo scenario.

Let's resurrect this while I'm working on the website :)

I'm attending one of the other *FO events and they have provided GPS map files of all of the rides. I'm not sure how to select which route on my GPS that I'll follow, but I could attempt to put something similar together and the files could be downloaded from the website (I think, unless there are copyright issues, and if so, I could email them).

We might also get other ideas from attending NAFO (those of us who are) before our rally and incorporate some of those ideas.

I'll have to search, but who organized the cave tour last year? Not sure that person would be willing to do that again, but could we call that place and see about discounted entrance fees?

Crazy Horse was interesting, but I don't know how many people want to see that.

Some of the night stuff would be interesting to me (Mt Rushmore) but I'm not sure how many people would do that and it got pretty cool at night :)

The website is up...I'll be tweaking the appearance once the logos are built (I'm piecing together one of my own in the meantime). Let me know what else we should add to the website. :)

I made some GPS route files for CFO last year but found that few people could use them on their GPS units. Even going from Garmin to Garmin, we found that they change their file formats every year or two, and they are not backward compatible. I vowed to not do it again. But maybe someone can solve the compatibility problem.

Devanator made the arrangements last year at Jewel Cave National Monument. I would be very surprised if the National Park Service offers group discounts. If folks are interested in a cave tour this year, we could consider Wind Cave National Park for a change of scenery. It's about 20 minutes south of Custer near Hot Springs.

I've never been to it, but I've heard that the "lighting ceremony" just after sunset at Mount Rushmore is extremely impressive.

I'm able to import/manipulate the map files for NAFO and the ones emailed to me for SFO. I just got a Garmin 2610, it reads the gbd files just fine...

We have time to work on it :)
