I'll see about getting this set up by Thanksgiving. I'm going to Boston (work is making my take a plane..*******s) next week and it'll be a week to catch up what work piles up while I'm gone.
I think I'll defer the hosting to a paid-for-hosting company. I've had a really great experience with p4host.com - super cheap ($24/year or more, depending on the amount of traffic) and is easy to work with. I think I would prefer to do that rather than host it myself. While I know I could host it on my own server, what if someone comes along with real web-design skills and could put up a better site or is willing to maintain it?
Let me know what y'all think.
I think for that price it would be hard to justify your time setting it up let alone maintaining it. I say go for it.

Work was supposed to slow down with my "new" job (same company). However, I've been on the road and this will be my first week at home in a while...until Friday when the girlfriend and I go out to California...and no, she won't let me take the bike
My friend said it would take him all of a few hours to get the site ready and through some coordination with me we'll get it up on the hosted site.
Although, I might temporarily "stage" it on my server to work out the bugs...
I will post information and email when it's ready.

Just to say I'm back from harvest and Thanksgiving. I see Oct 25 was my last login. Don't worry twistedcricket you only get busier with age and new and better jobs. Just ordering a Russell seat. It's got to be better than stock. We need to find a way to sneak devinator a little cash to get to CFO though. Just won't be the same, had a great time still impressed.

Ok. Getting the ball rolling on the website.
I'm going to have a friend's web design/hosting company set it all up. Including the registration of the domain cforally.org.
I'll figure out how to pay him (if he sends an invoice), but it's going to be a simple site and he said he'd just put it on his shared-host plan. I didn't think more than 100 people would view the site.
It should be simple. There will be an information page, a registration page with a link to pay the registration via PayPal (see below for more info) and a link to the hotel's website to remind people to reserve a room. Finally, there will be an "administration" page where someone with the correct login/password (me and Jackson or whoever) will be able to view and edit the list of registered people. We'd be able to delete someone who can't make it or correct information.
Who's paypal account did we use last year? Devonator's? If he's not going this year, we'll have to set up a new one or use someone else's. I have one, but would prefer that we set one up separate. I can check into what it would take, but I know it has to be tied to a checking account. This isn't a challenge, except someone will have to set up a separate account. Now, if that person loses interest, we can transfer bank accounts behind the PayPal account.
I could set this all up, but I don't know how Jackson purchased everything. If it's all found online I'm sure we could get everything and ship it...

We should probably make one for the site and have someone just have access to it so they can act as administrator.
I had a paypal account set up for myself and used that to handle the cost of the meals. The cost of registration for this next year will have to be figured out and what we are going to include. (shirts, meals, administration cost, ect) But I think it will be easier for those attending if we handle it that way. Like WFO does. Include the cost of shirt, meal or whatever in the fee so everything will be included so those coming can just pay one time and be done with it. Rooms will be handled separately just like the other rally sites though. Shirts were kind of nice to order off the Cafe Press site. That might be the way to go again for the shirts. Just a thought.
As far as myself, I'm still on the fence. I know I stated that I would not be coming but I will just play it by ear. Work situation this past two weeks has been awesome. I have work lined up through February/March. So I will continue to help as if I will come but will have to make the decision for sure when it gets closer. I do not want to miss out on this Europe trip if I can help it though. So we will have to stay tune to see what happens. You can't get rid of me that easy.

For the last CFO we did not charge a registration fee... Mike just collected funds for the dinner. I had some expenses for name tags, FJR pins, etc., that I just paid out of my own pocket.
We have talked about charging a registration fee for 2008, which could cover things like the dinner, name tags, and munchies for a reception. Perhaps we could have the reception in a private dining room like the one where we had our dinner in September, and folks could buy their own drinks in the bar next door.
For the cost of registration, we need to determine how much the dinner will cost, and add maybe $10-20 per person for supplies and a reception.
For the shirts, the CafePress system worked fine. Other than setting up the logos to go on the shirts, it involves no work on the part of us, the "staff". No counting heads of shirt orders, figuring out numbers of each size, placing a large order at the last minute, transporting shirts to the site, passing them out.... etc. And, people can get the shirts months in advance if they want, helping to publicize the event.
I have my own PayPal account, which I prefer not to co-mingle with CFO funds, but if you want, I can set up a new PayPal account just for CFO, along with a new dedicated CFO bank account.

I have a paypal account as well, but I agree with Bill that we shouldn't co-mingle funds. If Bill wants to set up a designated account, that sounds like a great idea.

The website could link to CafePress to let people know about the shirt availability - I would agree that if people want one the could order one. Relying on people to submit the correct size when they register is fine, but they can't change their mind. If we let them order it themselves, they only have themselves to blame for the wrong size (unless the order was messed up by CP).
The website is probably 2 weeks out still. The company (my friend) was swamped thanks to some last-minute decisions by their clients and aren't able to put our site up just yet. Once it's up, we'll be able to manage it ourselves.
What types of things, other than the meal, do we need to cover with the registration fee?
Meal -
Name tags - lanyards
munchies/beverages (sodas/water, multiple days, for after-ride gatherings?)
Trinkets of some sort - the pins were nice, what other items (keychains?) could we get that are useful and cheap?
Hats with FJR logo?
Stickers? (CFO-logo'd)

SFO had this stuff available on the CafePress site also. I think we should just let them handle these type of things also. Keep the registration process as simple as possible.
I would be willing to work the logo again for CFO if you would like. And then I can send it to cafe press.

Today I set up dedicated PayPal and bank accounts for CFO. For someone to send money via PayPay, the address is: jackson8888 at yahoo.com Let's don't put the actual email address on the web site. Disguise it like I did so spammers can't automatically harvest it.
There will be a $2.50 per month service fee on the bank account unless we have a minimum balance of $100, so I hope that soon we can collect a few registration fees to meet that minimum. I put $10 of my own $$ in there just to get things started.
Mike, what did the meal cost us last time? Wasn't it close to $20 including tax and tip?
Peter.... what do you think? If we order salad, entree, drink (iced tea or soda), and dessert...... We did not order a dessert last time, and one of the entrees did not come with a salad.

Supplies (name tags; I have lanyards we can use): $2
Bank account fees: $1
If any $$ are left over, we (or someone) can use it as seed funds for the next CFO.
