Well I just got home from the CFO and agree it was the greatest time with the most incredible group of people ever ! Awesome letter road ride through Wisconsin,Iowa & Minnesota mostly lead by Wheaton although Escape, Trini, Onerider and I took turns at times. Of course I got us lost at the end coming back through Minnesota! Only Trini was dumb enough to follow me all the way :haha: but we still made it back in time for the banquet.

I'm frikin movin to West Wisconsin as soon as I win the lottery. Damn beautiful corn fed Wisconsin women ;) , 100 year old farms that look like they were built yesterday and actually smell good. The only straight road we saw was some of the intersections ! :p

EscapeFJRtist and I took the northern route back roads back home to Michigan ( :trinibob: you boat wuss ! ) and headed for the Soo Locks on the far side of Michigan's U.P. Ripping up 28 at 8:18 pm Sunday nite at 75 mph Escape thought it was time to rachet up the excitement a bit and blew his rear tire out 40 feet in front of me.

I'm watching this perfect little 4x4 inch square piece of rubber spit out from under his bike and spin down the road and going now WTF did he run over ? Same time I see his shoulders tense up and then I'm going *&&$#&@ in unison with Escape !

He made a great save and kept it upright, THANK GOD what was left of the tire stayed on the rim ! 4 1/2 hours later, 500 mosquito bites and a flat bed truck ride for Escape saw us safely in the Soo.

We thought the CFO might go international for us as Canada was beginning to sound like the closest replacement tire. This according to the wrecker driver and a good samaritan on a Honda Shadow. Same rider who had witnessed us both almost get taken out by a criminally careless oncoming passer in a SUV and later happened upon Escape while I rode for help.

Shadow rider actually offered to trailer Escape and put us up for the night, then rode after me to see how I was making out with a tow. Cell phones, by the way, are useless that far north.

I was on my way back when he flagged me down, we talked for a few, he made his offer which I gratefully declined since the truck was on its way. We both headed back but I was in a hurry. I think he cruised by us as we were putting on the second or third layer of Deep Woods Off! purchased for the flatbed wait in the middle of northern nowhere.

To make a long story a little shorter, Escape's FJR spent the night parked next to Chippawa Yamaha, we bedded down a mile away at a Mom & Pop hotel that advertised Bikers Welcome until the shop opened the following morning. The old man is a biker and a hell of a nice guy as is his lady, even after being rousted from sleep at nearly 1 in the morning. If you ever visit Saulte Saint Marie in the UP make sure to give the great folks at Lakers Motel your business. 47 bucks for a nicer room and better service than at the Days Inn at the CFO. Plus outside patio seating to watch the sunrise with a cig and coffee.

Escape scored a Pireli Diablo rear at the Honda dealer the next morning when the yammy dealer came up empty. I played taxi while Escape rode ***** with the Pirelli over his shoulder. Never touched me once but I know he wanted to ! :D

We finally got to see the Locks in action about 2 hours later, pretty neat and a lot closer than the Panama Canal. Damn near as hot though. Lots of pictures then a fast ride south for the two of us home. Parted ways with Escape in Bay City on I-75 , he went to his local Yamaha dealer to see how much ( and long ) it would take to replace his torn up rear fender from the blow out.

I had the pleasure of riding another 120 miles alone through the hairest thunderstorms and downpours we've had this year. Ahhh, finally cooled down below 90. It sucks to be home again...

BRING ON THE NEXT CFO !!!!!!!!!!

I'm an addict now, Escape has me thinking about riding to the WFO with him in a few weeks. What the hell ,I've already got the shirt! A new rear tire, some additional luggage,a oil change and I just may be in! :dribble:

That is Hell of a story, reminds me of my rear tire flat in North Platte Neb. years ago on my FJ1200.

This is the kind of weird stuff that we can tell years later, kinda fun.....

Your flat would suck even if you had along a tire patch kit and a air pump. You were kinda screwed............. Glad to hear everyting worked out for ya's.

ZZZZZ

ridin' *****.... now just wait a minute  how else was I going to get a tire ? Was definitely quite an adventure, don't want to do that again anytime soon. Other than the "excitement" can't add anything else to Chooser's story.

Had a good ride on some fun roads. You know Chooser, maybe next time you'll listen to me when I say go THIS WAY not THAT WAY... I get us through the hard navigating and you take the lead down 'ol I-75 at what 80-85, blowing past everything in our path :haha:

Glad you made it back all safe and sound, change the oil and get a new back tire....westward ho !

GEEEEZ George!!!

A little excitement huh?! CFO not good enough for ya -ya gotta look for more?

Man, I am glad you made it out okay. FF is right about the tire repair. I presume it was at the same place as the previous patch. You did say left turns were squirrelly during the CFO.

Good thing you had a riding buddy to fetch help.

Riding ***** isn't near as fun I suppose - better than walking I suppose,

Alls well that ends well...keep up the good karma 'till after the wfo (paid for your dinner yet?).

Oh and better keep Ross/Chooser handy just in case this happens again. ; )

NOT. IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN.

Happy landings.

Cheers from Wheaton...

George, you ARE a hell of navigator ! Maybe I should change my handle to WrongWay ? Got a compass mounted to my bike for all the good it does. If left to me we'd probably be halfway to the WFO already by accident !

Glad to see you made it home safe.

Many congradulations go out to Brian and Derek for making the 1st annual CFO gathering a huge success!!! The roads were fantastic, I didn't get a speeding ticket(actually only saw 2 police officers the whole weekend and they were to busy eating donut's), Trinny bought me a drink(of course I reciprocated!), and no one fainted at the sight of a topless Radman!!

FJR2Fly, I am glad you finally made it home! It was great riding and rooming with you.

Opt8low and Stryg8r, Thanks for the great run on Saturday!! The pics turned out great!

I for one look forward to next year - hopefully in LaCrosse!!

Hoistman

I had a great time meeting everyone and riding those alphabet roads. It was nice being able to put faces to names. Glad to hear everyone enjoyed themselves and no bones were broken, although more than a few Amish were probably shaken up. Let's schedule the next CFO to *not* coincide with the annual Amish Buggy Parade. :)

And someone please bring an extra shirt for Radman!

Tom, I think your Russell was damaged and is potentially unsafe. I suggest you remove it immediately and send it to me for a long-term 'safety evaluation'. I'll send in back as soon as I've deemed it safe to ride on again. It shouldn't take more than 20,000 miles. :)
