For any of you folks heading from New Brunswick area, I would suggest taking route 6 (Sunrise Trail) once you hit Amherst. This will eventually take you into the town Pictou. A great spot to stop for lunch on the waterfront. Once you hit the TCH-104 take exit 27 to route 245, onto route 337 towards Ballantynes Cove (Sunrise Trail). This is a very pretty run. This will bring you into Antigonich which is only 50km(30miles) to the hotel. These roads are much nicer than riding the TCH-104 the whole way. Feel free to PM me with any questions.

I haven't booked, but theirs talk at work of sending me to Halifax for 1 days worth of work, guess when > :)

That'd be sweet, food, travel, lodgings all paid, and then I get to ride the Cabot!

Thanks a lot for the routing suggestions. It looks great on S & T. I'm going to be doing an IBA BunBurner on the way up from Georgia. It will be a real treat to relax after that with some beautiful water views.

I'll transfer to Mapsource for the Zumo later on.

Again, thanks for your effort and your posting.

Mike

I agree that the Sunrise Trai is much better than blowing down the TCH. I've done the Sunrise twice (once on the FJR and once on my old YZF600R) on my way to Newfoundland and really enjoyed the views.

Any thought as to the coastal route to St. John instead of up to Houlton and over that the web maps keep routing? Trying to score some time off for this event.

Is there an attendance list yet?

Sull in Southern Maine.

Sull,

Whenever I ride through Maine I take the Airline Route (Hwy 9) from Bangor to Calais. This is much, much quicker than going up through Houlton and it isn't the interstate. If time permits Rte 1 from Ellsworth along the coast to Calais is a nice ride but slow due to all the tourist traffic.

I love to ride in New Brunswick but if you have limited time I would recommend that you take Rte 9 to the Canadian border. Then take the hwy Rt 1 to Salisbury where it meets Rte 2 (Trans Canada Hwy). Then it will take you a little under an hour to get to Amherst, Nova Scotia where you can get onto the Sunrise Trail.

Here is the route from Bangor to Amherst.

Thanks for the feedback. Same alternate route I came up with. After that, I'm not too crammed for time so will analyze all the suggestions made previously and go from there in planning. Thanks again.

I looked at these directions and couldn't for the life of me figure out what the "partial toll road" is - since toll roads were a VERY short-lived project in NB. It finally came to me..... you need 50 cents to cross the Harbour Bridge in Saint John ! Hope to see you in Cape Breton. Safe ride B)

I just checked the long term forecast for Port Hastings and they are calling for cloudy +19 deg C and no rain for the whole wknd. Actually every day is forcast to be cloudy. Hey are you sun challenged out there??? I will try to bring some out with me.

Given the current ability to forecast weather 8 days in advance we could be having a heat wave or a snow storm! :)

I know I am planning for more on the cool side than the hot.

Mike, it won't be the temps you saw out west! That is for sure <_<

Gypsy, I took your route and extended it down to Augusta. In miles, not km, it will then be 376 to Amherst, 87 to Pictou, 79 to Port Hastings, with a total of 542. Route keeps getting shorter and easier, it seems!

Sull-

There are three local Beemers heading up, but won't be leaving until Thursday after work. They're arriving Cape Breton Friday and heading to Cheticamp for rooms. I'm sure we won't be hard to miss when they see a flock of FJR's!

96 hours and counting now...

Ray
