Thanks Fred. Though I didn't find RJ's thread, I did find that same keyless gas cap mod. A quick GIS, showed they were running $136 bucks! Yikes! I suppose I'll keep my eyes open and see if I find one for a good deal less and perhaps pull the plug on that. For now, I'll use my key. But my immediate problem with swapping out the fillers has been solved and I'm happy enough about that. For now.

I'll look into your castration next

I'd like to come up with a way to modify the stock cap for keyless use. lift the flap and push a button or something.

Wait a second...Does Kitty just say Fred is getting castrated?? I'll buy tickets for that!!

Oh...And glad you got your gas cap deal figured out. I was also under the impression that only 3 of the 5 bolts were actual bolts. Coulda swore someone broke a "fake" one...guess not.

I just had that cap assembly off. There are only three real ones! 12, 7 & 5 o'clock are real. 10 & 2 o'clock are fake. Look closely at the marking on the heads. They are different. :)

My gas cap has been castrated for a couple of years now. My own testes are still in place, though not serving any real purpose these days. Sorry, AJ, no show.

Yep. Lookie at the second photo here (in the gas cap castration post) and you can see what the deal is. Those three screws mentioned that you can see from the top and the 4th one hidden when the cap is closed and locked. Without the 4th one it wouldn't be a very secure lock...

Speaking of which, everybody should take that cap assembly off every once in a while to check for corrosion in the well. I found corrosion on mine. Thank God the Navy made me a corrosion control specialist! :))

PS, Hi Turbo! I miss Turbo hugs! How you doing?

Doing good enuf. riding fairly often but doing "flower sniffing rides" mostly. still running 06 AE abut also my 09 Wee that suits me nicely. Not a lot of stamina but have done one 700 mile weekend from Rancho Cucamonga over 2 days to Beatty. I sure miss all you great IBR folks. Hope to come around soon. Been busy this year as Humbug(President) of Billy Holcomb Chapter 1069 of the Ancient and Honorable Order of E Clampus Vitus, a patriotic and historical organization.

Oh, a semen apprentice then? Or maybe a full fledged semen?

Fuel caps switched. All is right with the universe.

But I'm telling ya, both bikes, all 5 screws on the outter part are 'real' screws.

Good deal.

And yes, they are all "real screws", but the ones at 10 and 2 are shorter and only thread into the cap flange itself. The other three (plus the hidden one) pass through the flange and thread into the tank. You could leave the two "fakes" screwed in and the cap assembly would still come right off.
