In my experience you have a good chance of that washer being a real pain to get off. Some are a real bear even when the cartridge is out. At this point, I'd just leave it alone and ride. Save all that for down the road when you have the cartridge out for a bushing and seal change. The stock arrangement had no flanged washer, and the upper guides will help keep the springs straighter..... IMHO you are good to go as is. If by some chance you hear the springs and it bothers you, well you can rethink it.

The forks are finally quiet. I thought I had loose stuff in the cowlings or windshield, but after setting the sag today, i took it out and slammed potholes, road seams and Belgium Block (rock cut to look like bricks), and the front end is more silent and manageable than ever. I'll live with it.

Ray, can't thank you enough for your help and encouragement.

Fred, thanks for the old post when you did BigOgre's bike. It answered a lot of questions. I think the washer is a non-issue for now.

Yeah, I did not mean to say it was a problem, but if you start to hear some spring scraping sounds coming from the forks you'll know what it is.
