I just bought a 2010 FJR two weeks ago and I am wondering if I can charge the battery through the accessory port in the "glove" box? I tried searching for this and did not see anything on this topic. Maybe I used the wrong search terms.

Thanks from a newbie,

Mike

Simple answer: No.

On your Gen II, the glovebox outlet is switched by the ignition, so is not connected to the battery with the key off.

Just get one of these.

I run the lead out by the steering stem and tuck it in the hole behind when not in use. You can run it there or out under the seat; whatever works for you. I use it to power my GPS or Droid X on a RAM mount on the clutch perch. Then plug in the Tender when she sits in the garage while the snow flies.

As stated, the battery tender whip with the rings on one end and SAE on the other is simple and very user friendly. I keep the SAE end just inside the side fairing opening below the battery, next the resvr. fill cap. The tender and whips (a few of them with different end configurations) come as a package at Autozone.

I fitted a Dual Powerlet on the left hand side (where the seat lock is). This is hooked up directly to the battery via a fuse. I always use this for charging.
I have the same setup, and have a related question. Could I jump start the FJR via my powerport? IIRC it has a 10 amp fuse.

10 amps isn't enough. You might be able to hook up a battery and let it charge the bike battery for a few minutes, disconnect the battery and give it a try. On the other hand, the inrush of current might also pop the fuse if there is a large enough differential in the charge of the two batteries - even without trying to start with the battery connected.

If you haven't done it already, that panel piece over the battery is super easy to take on and off on a gen2. Less than a minute, so I just take that off for the winter and hook a tender up every now and then.
