Is it possible to charge the '06 battery through the power outlet?

If it is completely flat I wouldn't be able to open the solenoid actuated cover, I know...

Is there any draw on the battery from the electronic components when the bike is sitting? Happened on my R 1200 GS.

Thank you,

Armin

Don't know, haven't tried, and I'd be leery of blowing the 3A fuse (as I did when I tried pumping up tires through this 'adapter'). Why oh why couldn't they put a fat-gauge wire and a real friggin' fuse (10A or 15A) on this thing? Instead, Yamaha took a great idea and farked it up by making it pretty useless for anything other than charging my cellphone. And did they have to use such abnormal fuses? Everybody stocks the large, standard ones, but I've had a harder time finding the little ones.

I'm considering actually cutting the wiring harness that runs to this and putting in some heavier gauge wire, with a 15A in-line flat-blade fuse. With that setup you'd have no problem charging the battery. If you try on the stock harness, let us know if you blow the fuse. :D

Other than clock memory etc, no. But it is enough where volts will be down considerably after 2 weeks to a month, depending on ambient temp. Battery Tenders and the like are popular with owners.

Assuming that the power outlet is active with the key off, a low amp battery charger should be fine through the power outlet. The battery in the FJR is Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) and benefits from use of a battery charger that supports that type of battery, such as the Battery Tender Plus.

Oh yeah, forgot that drawback to the stock outlet as well--it's switched, so using it with the key off is a no-go. Yet another reason to cut it from the harness and add custom wires....

I wired in a Jastek outlet for my heated vest down behind the fairing near my left knee. It is wired to the battery with 16 gauge wire (overkill, I know) with a 10 amp in line fuse near battery and a rocker switch mounted in the left black panel behing the 'glove box'. That way I easily control power to the outlet. When its cool I use it for the vest. When the bike sits for a while, say December through February, I use the outlet for the Yuasa battery charger. Slick and easy.

I just use the original connector for my Gerbing jacket/gloves; I have the old style with the SAE connector which you can get extension cords for at Autozone for like $1.50. I buy an extension cord, cut it in half, and thus have 2 SAE connectors I can wire to various bits (including my battery tender, a hacked apart $10 air compressor that I keep under my seat, and a 3-hole cigarette lighter adapter purchased from Radio Shack that I keep in my tank bag, with which to charge/run multiple electronic devices from teh bag). Since these connectors are readily available, you can mount one to pretty much anything, and my gerbing cord has a 10A fuse on it. I just don't have the neato switch the FJReady has, but since the SAE connectors are approved as waterproof (same style used on pretty much every trailer connector) I simply don't worry about it.
