I'm new here so I may have missed an earlier discussion. I have no interest in Bluetooth, whatever that is, or music or CB or radio. I also don't want to spend more than a few bucks.

I've searched everywhere and cannot find a simple wired intercom so that my wife and I can chat while riding. We wear open face helmets because no one makes full face helmets in my size.

I don't want to spend $200 for some electronic crap I don't understand. I just want to chat with my wife. I don't care if we have to connect a couple of wires.

Does anybody sell a simple helmet-to-helmet intercom?

If not, does anyone sell the components, such as boom mikes and earphones? I'm pretty good with electronics and can build my own. I'd just rather not.

Sorry for my unpleasant tone. I sawed down a diseased tree yesterday with a handsaw, then installed a concrete parking spot for my bike using a half-ton of premix concrete and a shovel. Then today I mowed the lawn. I'm 56 years old. everything hurts. It's late and I'm drunk. Other than that, I feel great.

Can anyone help? (Burp)

Used Autocom is indeed the best way to go and will be cheapest in the end. Yes there are cheaper ways to try, but after trashing several, you'll end up with the Autocom.

btw, I have some trees to take out, pay in beer, and it sounds like you're an expert... :p

My old boss used to say. "Good ain't cheap, and cheap ain't good." That said, I've been using an autocom for 5 years and would buy another.

That must be one big noggin you have. Don't they make most helmets up to XXXL? Anyway, my wife and I tried the half helmets, the 3/4 helmets and while ok, in my VERY humble opinion, nothing beats the full helmets, especially the full modular flip-up variety. We both wear glasses so getting a regular full helmet on is more difficult and being able to flip it up in slow speed or stop conditions when hot out is also very nice as well as talking to someone. Not to mention safety also. But, I digress.

On the communications..I would not touch a hard wired system. Hard enough being tethered to a woman by marriage. Why tether yourselves together while biking? Every time you get on/off the bike you have to remember to plug/unplug. Ughh.

We bought a Midland BT2D wireless system for 2. Works great for communications as well as the other things you don't want (or think you might want in the future)like bluetooth or an mp3 player or gps or whatever. Costco sometimes have them online for $190 total for the two set system. Go to amazon and you can usually get them for $160-$180 otd plus maybe tax. Has boom mikes (for all helmets) or a small wired mike for mounting inside either a full or modular helmet (which we did). Had them for over a year and zero problems and we are totally satisfied.

And by the way, bluetooth is just a wireless communications system for two or more devices to communicate once you sync them, that can go thru walls, etc somewhat similiar to wi-fi. But unlike infrared which cannot go thru walls, clothes, etc. Probably more to it than that, but that's all you really have to know most of the time.

Your problem is going to be wind noise, so you need noise cancelling mikes. Cheap systems are out, go Autocom, they have the best mikes for the job.
