You know this thing has a few "accessories" that Mama Yamaha could dust off and and implement on the FJR. Things like cruise control, self-cancelling turn signals, very workable air management. The CLASS suspension works perfect. You want adjustable handlebars??? This thing has 4 way adjustable bars! But they all add weight, 815lbs to be exact. But I have run across the country on it with the cruise set at 80 and all you hear is the hiss of the tires on the pavement(and AC/DC on the stereo!) As a uberslabber I will take it over the Wing anyday. I wish they would bring this bike back with updated frame technology from the GTS1000 and the engine from the new VMax. Would be a killer slabber.

Doesn't surprise me that so many of us rode XS11s in our previous lives.

Mine was an 81 Special (SH). I was constantly working those Mikuni carbs. My wife (now ex- wife, bless her loving heart) must've thought that I wore carb cleaner as cologne.

The real beauties, in my opinion, were the Midnight Specials.

Anybody else ever hang out on XS11.com?

Here is one I liked a lot. And I didn't complain about the heat coming out of the side openings by the engine. <_< My '86 had a louvered cover over the hole, which helped a lot.

You can tell what bike I liked.

MNFJR05 and petey..... I really like those Ventures. My brother had one for many years and I always enjoyed swapping bikes with him. The early versions of those had problems with the stators cooking, and second gear (I think) failing...?? Are those items familiar. I know my bro installed the Yamaha service kit for the stator cooling that consisted of a different (hollow) bolt on the stator end of the crank to allow more oil flow for cooling along with a wire slinger that slid into the end of the bolt that distributed the oil over the stator. He removed his engine and split the cases to change the gear and, again, Yamaha had a service part that was different from the original piece. Otherwise, he put a lot of miles on it before it died prematurely due to a large animal impact. A dog this time, not a deer.

jestal, yes, I had the stator fry on my '03, but had no other issues with any of the others. I have good memories of my Ventures, great bikes. The top gear roll-on's where...well, one of the best, compaired to other tourers.

Dayyum, brings back memories :yahoo: ... I spent 13 years on a gold '84 Venture Royal. Got the FJR because I miss it so much.

They got crazy over there. Always arguing about tires and oil.

J.
I still go to the XSeast rally every year!
Well then Tom...you wouldn't be the one arguing about the oil and tires then would ya? In fact that's probably the prime reason you attend - rabble rouser that you are! ..

..Not. eh?
