I'll start out by saying I always forget to take pictures when I ride. I guess I just don't want to stop.

So, here's the best of what I have.

2200 Miles.

I rode north from Chicago, around Milwaukee, up 41 to Oshkosh. There is a great little store at the Slinger exit called Held's. They have everything in the way of smoked meat you could possibly want - Cheddar brats, Jalapeño brats, 1/2" thick-cut hickory smoked bacon, you can even buy the bacon as a whole slab, aged cheddar, homemade hot-mustard AND it's all family run. I almost set up camp in the parking lot. Of course I forgot to take a picture but it's right off the highway.

Just look for this:

I saw this on the north side of 41. It's at the experimental aircraft museum by Oshkosh.

Screwed around a Little NW of Oshkosh and found this place:

If you meet an extraordinarily hot, young blond with an “I’m-so-innocent” smile. Don’t shoot pool for money. That’s all I’m sayin… <_<

After that I headed up 22 to Shawano then onto 55 through the Menominee Reservation. 55 through the Rez is one of the best roads in Wisconsin. IMO.

The Wolf River:

Just north of Langlade is the “Wolf River Lodge” it’s an old lodge built in the 20’s. It sits right on the river.

The breakfasts are homemade and awesome. I was the only one there so they invited me into the kitchen where we made eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, and toast. I didn’t get back on the road until after 11am.

From there I went up to Eagle River and took a left. There's a cool little area around St. Germain. Just be careful, there's a lot of Forest Rats around there.

I was getting close to Bayfield when I remembered to take a picture:

I camped just south of Bayfield, right on Lake Superior by the Apostle Islands.

That night, there was a bear right outside my tent. Of course, I wasn't really thinking about taking a picture, sorry.

Then it rained the rest of the night.

BUT, morning brought this:

Then up to Bayfield:

This was on the way to Duluth, Minn. just west of Bayfield:

I headed west, blew right through Duluth. What's up with the giant bridge? Way too windy when I went over that.

Turned North up 61. Found this:

I took another left at Illgen City and went up 1 to Ely. That was a great road. There are no shoulders and lots of curves so I didn't take any pictures. It's cold as hell up there in the National Forest. I saw some of these though:

From Ely I headed towards International Falls and got lost. I found this place though - Great Burger. Turns out, this was about 300 yaards from the road I was looking for.

Made it to International Falls:

Turns out the best thing about International Falls is the Dairy Queen. :p

Headed south from International falls and came across this:

And then this guy:

Then this:

After four days on the road and camping, I stopped for this:

Bemidji, Minn:

Just southeast of Bemidji is Lake Itasca. It's the headwaters of the Mississippi River:

The beginning of the River is just this wide:

Somewhere in Minn:

No Idea Where this was:

Back to the Mississippi south of the Twin Cities:

The River gets a lot Bigger here:

After that I headed down to Madison WI To meet up with these Knuckleheads:

Then back to Chicago.

But the SCARIEST moment of the whole week was when I saw Sasquatch:

(That f#@king Bigfoot can do a hell of a wheelie)

PEACE.

Wow, great pictures.... International Falls in a couple of months will be a bit cold. And that person with his back to the camera in the third to the last photo looks familiar....hhmmmmmmm? You know the one holding on to the sign.... Sure looks like someone I know named Rich.

Great report, Marty!

Am I now famous...or infamous? Ah, who cares anyway! It's just nice to be thought of.

Quite an adventure you had. One to tell the grandkids someday.

Kris

Looked like it was a great adventure Marty.

If you ever get back up this way you can pitch your tent in my back yard.

Nicely done OFace!

Buddy at work and I are dreaming, planning of doing an SS1K around either Superior or Michigan next summer. I might end up picking your brain as it approaches!

Thanks for the report!

Great report! My very first mc ride went throught Duluth, Thunder Bay and International Falls. Brought back some great memories. Wife and I once camped at Itasca State Park a week before Memorial Day, it was about 40F that night. Brrr. Beautiful though.

Looks like a nice ride and I love the Pic's, when did you make this run? I will have to post some of the Pic's from my Michigan UP trips. Let me know if you want company and if I have the time I will ride along I am up in Grayslake, il
