Anybody in Chicagoland willing to loan any FJR-specific tools, or open their garage for any of us to stop by and / or learn how to do certain FJR-specific tasks?

For instance, I've got the spanner wrench for the FJR steering bearings, 36mm socket, and a few tech-specific tools not related to bikes. I've also got some dremel tools and a few other odds & ends.

I've done the Barbarian mod myself, made my own custom flag-mount, airbox mod, etc.

My garage is open to anyone that needs to stop by.

I'd like to do an airbox mod, and would appreciate access to a throttle sync tool... Anyone got one I could use that's nearby?

What'ya folks say? Anyone want to chime in? How 'bout we run a thread with local folks locations, and experience to offer?

Interesting thread.

I have a LARGE shop, about 700 sqft, with pretty much all the metric tools you could ask for. I also have grinders, drill press, a cycle lift, air compressor, a few other things. Planning on getting a TBS gauge after this season, so I can stop borrowing my friends. The only bad part is I am way out here in Rockford, and my schedule is constantly in flux.

I have limited tools...no space or mechanical expertize. Other than that I'm good. I wouldn't mind occasionally dropping by someone's place to learn some good maintenance tips...like I have done in the past at griffs.

So I don't have much to offer...but I am willing to be an audience.

I am good at breaking things so...I have made a bead breaker (modeled after griff's) so I can break one for ya if you need one broken. ;)

Great thread, GC.

I got a really nice screw driver and some duct tape

Seriously, though, my garage is open to anyone. I got Motion Pro carb sticks and enough tools to handle mostly anything. FJR specific? I have a 23mm socket for steering head bolts and a 1/2" drive socket with 19mm Allen head for front wheel removal. I've done barbarian mods, TBS and I've installed most popular farkles. I'm probably forgetting something, but I'll edit when I remember :glare:

my screwdriver is broken, and I'm out of duct tape (used it all on the cage...) ;)

I'm mechanically inclined...I screw everything up.

But I would love to lurk in the background and maybe learn a thing or two through osmosis...I'll bring the beer.

I'm afraid to do anything to the bike, as I wouldn't know what to do when I screw up...

Oh! Roy just reminded me, I have a kegerator too. On a good day, I'll have a nice homebrew on tap. Otherwise it's just something commercial....but it's always cold :drinks:

Just one rule: no drinking and riding :nono:

Kegerator?

I'll grill the burgers...while watching you guys getting grease under your fingernails...

probably shouldn't be any drinking and wrenching, either.........................well, not much, at any rate (of one or the other--inverse proportion?)

--sounds like a road trip to me...

I have evrything you need to take the FJR apart and put it back together, I've done it enough. Even have a 2005 shop manual, a brand new air compressor ad motion pro for the TBS. No lift, plenty of wood for cribbing though. The only problem w/ me is that I live in the middle of Chicago, I don't think anybody wants to come here, not a bad area , just lotsa traffic. But if you do,you're more than welcome.

My schedule is probably the loosest of anyones here, 24 hr on 72 hrs off, that's excluding variables such as overtime or trades.

Thanks all for the input.

I'd definitely like to stop by someone's place in the future, and re-sync the TB's.

I'm working on an airflow idea, and once I get it done, I'll want to re-sync and adjust any changes.

Is the FJR throttle body sync done off of vacuum like the morgan tune? I have a morgan tune I used to sync my Concours carbs with. I'd show if the timing were right and bring the tool if it works on injection bikes.

Great idea. I have mercury sticks and the pipe stand to suspend the bike in the air. Along with bunch of tools. garage is open as well. I could use your steering wrench.

So, let's pick a date.

I'm lookin towards mid-July or so before I'll be ready to sync the TB's.

My bike parts should be out of the body shop by end of next week I hope. After the air intakes are finished, then I'll definitely want to re-sync the TB's.

(p.s. - the intake idea works - I tested a mock-up today I'll post pics and a thread when done.)

Cougar, if you need the steering head wrench before then, I'll PM ya' with my cell phone # and we'll get it to you somehow. You ain't that far from me in Carpentersville.
