My brother is moving to Cincinati to look for a better job market.

Any one with knowledge of the area have any suggestions on what ends of town are good vs bad areas. One kid still in H.S. so a decent school district as well.

Well, learning how to spell Cincinnati, will prolly garner him a better shot at employment and keep him outta of the ghetto. ;)

I lived in Cincy for over 20 years.......there is a reason this transplant yankee is living in NC.

I think you could probably google info about crime stats in and around Cincy as well as the school system.

I think like most cities.......you will pay for safety, usually in the form of more expensive neighborhoods means more taxes which means more happy patrol officers trying to keep the streets safe or at best keep the less desirables out.

When I lived there some of the nicer places were;

Indian Hill

Sycamore

Madiera

Montgomery

Blue Ash

Deer Park.................

and of course my favorite..............North Carolina.

Well, I live in Dayton, 'bout an hour north. And since nobody from "down under" is responding, I'll at least tell you that Blue Ash is supposedly one of the better areas. It's in the northeast sector. A fantastic nearby school system is Mason, OH, 'bout 15 minutes north of Blue Ash. Of course, if you live in Blue Ash, your kids won't go to school in Mason. See, I've already showed what little I know about that area. Anyway, I'd stay as far away from downtown as you can. You can also live just over the river in Kentucky and be a stone's throw from downtown. I'm sure I haven't helped much. But hey, what do we Daytonians know anyway... I can tell you this, I'm a mechanical engineer who's been half heartedly in the job market for a couple years, and there's a TON more job possiblilties in Cincinnati than up here in Dayton. Hope this rambling helps. :dribble:

Nearly all of the northern burbs are fine.

Just about anything around the 275 loop is a reasonable place.

What industry is he in?

Stay out of Cincinnati propper and you don't have to worry about crime. Also Nothern KY is booming, at least economy wise, and there are a few decent neighborhoods down yonder too, but the schools leave a lot to be desired.

Anything north includes but is not limited to:

Sharonville, Evendale, Blue Ash, Landen area, WestChester, Mason, even Fairfield has started coming around.

Commuting here isn't as bad as in a lot of places but it's starting to get that way. He should avoid working downtown if he can, unless he wants to live close to it...

There are lots of decent schools in most of the outer belt areas. But it depends on what you're looking for. It's not easy to say live here or there. Part of it would depend on where he's going to work. If we knew that and more about him and his family, it would be easier to stear you one direction or another :D

Northern Ky is the place ya outta be, so we loaded up the truck and we moved to.... Fort Thomas?

Formally of Norwood, which was becoming quite diversified but no one was celebrating.

Thanks for the info so far, But if you live in one state and work in the other, won't that play havoc with your taxes?

I live in Cincinnati. Maybe 4 miles from the heart of downtown.

Cincinnati sucks moist *** cheese through an AIDS infected straw. I do not reccommend living anywhere inside of the 275 loop. Stay out of Kentucky, there are some nice places but it's a commonwealth and they have some funny laws that Ohio does not have. Cincinnati income tax is 2.1% which you will pay if you live or work IN Cincinnati.

4(?) years ago it was voted most livable city in the US, whatever that means. Cincinnati has become a melting pot for every negative ethnic stereotype there is. I was born in Conoga Park California (Sherman Okas to be exac)t. Lived in a suburb of Chicago, then in Northern Kentucky along with Texas and St. Augustine Florida. So I'd interacted with all kinds of people and never understood the whole race thing. When I was 25 I moved to Cincinnati I finally figured out where all the stereotypes come from.

Cincinnati is full of a lot of people that just don't give a ****. Those of that do are trapped because we would lose big time if we tried to sell our homes. A move to Cincinnati is NOT an investment in your future.

Again, that's inside the loop.

Outside the loop there are some really nice neighborhoods.

Indiana is very close also and is just now getting developed near ohio because of the riverboat casinos. Don't know too much about living there now but twenty years ago it was hillbilly land. There's even an Amish area "relatively" close.

I've been here for twenty years. Twenty long depressing years.

Hey look on the bright side Ramblin', atleast you've got the Bengals. :)

you had to go and say the B word didn't you.

I loved paying for Paul Brown Stadium. The city tore down Riverfront Stadium to build baseball only and football only stadiums and ruined the skyline. Used to be you'd come down through the 75 cut in the hill at night and there would be the City all lit up. Arguably it's one of the prettiest cities there is from a distance. At least it was.

Hey FJRFencer....

I'm also in the Northern KY area and can offer some perspective on the greater Cinci area if you like.

Throw me a PM anytime.
