Are there any other CISSPs on this forum? I'm trying to knock out the certification in about 6 weeks or so. My MS is in Info Security and I deal with security just about every day. Not to mention we have a "bootcamp" coming up in a few weeks. Thought I'd see if anyone had any thoughts -- am I nuts for even trying to cram this in such a short time?

Can be done in that time frame. I attended a bootcamp style prep course and was very happy with the results, but it isn't a substitute for a general understanding of the concepts beforehand. IMO if you work w/ IA / security stuff every day and have a degree associated w/ it the bootcamp can be a great help and get you ready. The amount of info you must retain is staggering. I had very little difficulty understanding the concepts, but remembering it all well enough to spit it out during a six hour exam requires some dedication. It was pretty tough, but I passed. I think if you give yourself a couple of hours each day to really understand the 10 domains (the way (ISC)2 wants you to understand them, not the way you already understand them) then you'll be fine. Just my humble opinion. Best of luck to you. Drop me an email via the forum if you want details about what training provider I used. I already paid them a shitpile of money, I don't feel like advertising for them, too.

I agree with all that GunMD said. I did basically the same thing. I had worked with security for a few years and then I went to the boot camp. The boot camp was a good refresher of all of the different domains and allowed me to focus on that and nothing else for a week and then I took the 6 hour test at the end of the week. You want to basically eat and sleep the 10 domains for the length of the boot camp. Also, take the practice tests over and over again to get used to the style of questions that are asked (you might even see some very similar questions on the actual test.)

Good luck.

The plan is to take the test right after the bootcamp. We have some ISC2 folks coming to teach the course, so they might administer the exam the Saturday afterwards. If they don't, I'm going to be in a sticky situation. They only administer the test twice a year on Oahu and the next test isn't until mid-August. I'd much rather take it right after the cram-session than wait a few weeks.

I'm taking some CBTs (on Domain 7 right now). I also have a hug all-in-one study book I'm reading. I hope to start the practice tests next week, giving me a week or 2 to practice before the bootcamp.

Thanks for the info!

If you have the time and financial resources to do it, I say go for it. Especially if your employer will pay for training or testing, or both. I'm still working on certs in my area (computer forensics) but always on the lookout for new ones that I think might be worthwhile.

This is a freebie (other than immense amounts of time at night!) so I'm going for it. Just wasn't sure if my efforts were a waste of time with such a short amount of time to do it in.
